What we say

This is a stand out establishment for many reasons, not least because it's the only place in the region offering authentic Portugese cooking from owner and chef, Ian MacFarlane, who has built a good reputation over 12 years. The epitome of a small, friendly neighbourhood eaterie, with understated furniture and candlelit tables, it trades on being the polar opposite to the corporate chain. The personal touch is evident throughout, the table is yours for the evening and you can watch Ian producing the goods in the open kitchen. First time visitors should try the house speciality porco na cataplana, a melange of fresh fish and seafood cooked in a traditional golden bowl that's opened at the table.

No faults whatsoever, the only sad thing is the lack of other diners - it doesn't bother me having a restaurant to myself but I just hope the owner is turning enough profit, it would be a great shame if the only proper Portuguese eatery in Bristol had to close its doors. The owner is a very nice chap & he genuinely seemed very happy in his kitchen - which probably helped the food taste so divine!

3 courses approx £25 pp. The salt cod starter was extremely tasty & the house speciality - the pork & fish Cataplana - served in its copper pan was just amazing :) And the rich chocolate torte pudding is heavenly. The owner also makes some mean garlic bread, which you get with olives as an appetizer.

It's a wonderful little place & very authentic - I did actually feel like I was transported back to Portugal or the little places you find in the back streets of Brazil. I really hope that everyone reading this will give it a go if they haven't already - fantastic food & great value, you won't be disappointed I'm sure :)
