A very authentic Indian, well worth discovering, Ahmed's Curry Café is a laid-back unassuming café serving typical dishes. Quality is a given here, with all food cooked to order in the open kitchen using the freshest, GM-free ingredients.
For a taster of the favourites, try the mixed starter with onion bhaji, chicken and lamb tikka and sheek kebab; or whole stuffed peppers with lightly spiced vegetables. Mains include rogan josh with whole trout in coriander and tomato sauce; or the popular "Thalis", an excellent way to sample a variety of dishes such as haandi lamb, sag prawn and vegetable madras and accompanied by pilau rice and bread.
Ahmed's also runs a gourmet tiffin club with eco-friendly metal tiffins which you use every time you enjoy one of their great-value takeaways.

Good food for the price

I had heard good things about both the food and the price, so we went for my girlfriends birthday. The restaurant itself is very small, as is the kitchen, although this proves interesting watching whilst you wait for food (which can be quite a long wait) as they seem to squeeze an amazing number of chefs in there!
The menu was varied, and the food was nice and had a good amount of heat to it, but the sauces that came with our curries tasted a bit bland and the veg was not particularly fresh.
However, the price was lower than most of the curry houses in that area, and I would happily go there again for a casual meal or a cheap eat!

Service was awful. Eight of us dined and we were all extremely annoyed at the length of time it took for the food to arrive. The cafe itself seems to give priority to the takeaway orders and just leaves the seated customers waiting and waiting and waiting. Not good!

Ahmeds curry is lovely, I have never had a bad curry there. Their takeaway service is great value for money and whenever we try a new curry place I always regret it. Ahmeds is well recommended and I look forward to trying their sister restaurant on Jacobs Wells road.
