What we say

After nearly 10 years on the scene, this bright waterside bar and restaurant figures highly in the Bristol ratings appealing, as it does, to a wide audience. Artfully created to be all things to all people, its mix of cheerful décor and populist, broad menu fits most financial and mood requirements. The heated and plant-festooned outside terrace fits well with the bright, light contemporary lounge interior and is a popular spot for summer evening alfresco waterside dining.

Although middle-of-the-road, it's certainly not bland - there are enough adventurous choices on the menu alongside the old faves like the liver & bacon or sausages & mash. The portions are generous and the Sunday lunch something of an institution. You'll find yourself in safe hands at Aqua.

I went for dinner with my wife and decided to give Aqua a go.

We decided to go only for a main course with a bottle of wine.

My wife decided on one of the vegetarian pizza's which kind of pushed me into a pizza too as Aqua serve their A la carte menu without trimmings.

If you order the veal escalops then that is what you'll get, no potatoes or vegatables. These are extra and when it is only one of you eating the portions are not economical, especially if you like to eat potatoes and a vegatable side with your main as most people do.

It really irk's me when restaurants do this as it is a cheap trick to make the menu look cheaper than it is.

Having said that, my pizza was fantastic, the base was think and crispy and the toppings were generous and high quality.

The pizza option for both of us meant the whole lot cost us £40 with a bottle of wne (not inc. tip)

We did hear two seperate tables complain that their food was wrong or overcooked but the staff were great in sorting it out so shouldn't get marked down for that too much.

Overall, a good restaurant and reasonably priced (if you have the pizza or more than one of you wants the a la carte).

As a starter, I had 4 small tastless scallops which cost £8.95! The main course was an underweight 12oz sinewy steak for £16.95.The second steak was overdone. House wine was rather expensive, starting at £15.95. The restaurant was very noisy.

Overall a poor dining experience, not recommended. Poor value for money and I won't be going back.

If you like to have a lovely diner, aqua will never disappoint - always good for great food, good local quality food, fresh and lovely and you can see in the kitchen. They've got some good wine too! and on a nice day you can sit on the terrace and perhaps even spot some members from Casulty filming the next episode.

Really nice food, nice atmosphere too. Waiters were friendly and the main course was to die for. I would definitely recommend this place to family and friends.

I had lunch today at Aqua with my dad. Unfortunately the good ol' British weather did us no favours, so although we started outside, we ended up finishing our meal inside. For a Friday lunchtime the restaurant was not particulary busy, but I think all restaurants are currently being hit pretty hard. With regards to the meal, we were given crudities and hummous to start with, which was a welcome change to bread and butter. The menu had a great selection of dishes with plenty of appealing dishes. I opted for duck with rice and wok vegetables and my dad had a burger (supposedly the best way to test a good restaurant is by the quality of their burgers). Both main courses were large portions and the burger was "top notch". The duck was cooked really well but the sauce was a bit bland (we think the water from the veg may have diluted the plum sauce). I had a dessert of banoffee pie and honeycomb ice cream and this was of course all enjoyed with wine, beer and coffee. The service was good (although I must admit the waitress was unable to answer any of our questions). All in all a very enjoyable meal and would recommend.

Aqua is the current venue for Statler & Wardorf's Friday Club. It's now ranks above Severn Shed as our favourite and is without doubt among Bristol's best for quality dining and also value for money. The chicken and Chorizo is highly recommended. Hey if you're around on a Friday lunchtime, why not pop in and say hi. We're there most Fridays 12.30-2.30. You can't miss us.... we're the 2 old boys sat in the corner with the bottle of Sancerre...
