What we say

Banco is the Totterdown member of The Lounges Group, a small chain of informal, neighbourhood, food-led café/bars (all ending with “o” in their names), founded by three bosom friends in 2002. A little more awkward in its shape and size - narrow and on split floors rather than a wide open restaurant floor - it follows the tried and tested formula of a a blackboard menu which changes with the seasons and uses local ingredients to provide all day breakfasts and a range of paninis and ciabattas as well as proper burgers and more substantial restaurant-like dishes. Also on offer is a selection of coffees, teas, smoothies, juices, cookies and pastries, and some wines and draught beers. There are newspapers to read, board games to play and books to swap. Quality.

Moving to the area soon so we decided to check out the local watering holes, we fancied some food and the Star & Dove was fully booked so we walked across to the Banco Lounge.

I love this place it always has a lovely warm feel to it.

Myself and a friend after checking the menu decided to have the Tapas 9 dishes for £8 and every one of them was really tasty, obviously not huge portions for £8 for 9 but all faultless.

2 x Slow braised belly of pork, lemon pepper chicken skewers, homous with paprika, chorizo, patatas bravas, cod goujons, Spanish omelette.

Washed down with a lovely glass of house Cabernet. For £11 for the lot i thought can't wait till we move as i think we will be regulars here!

I've eaten at Banco Lounge several times and always ben impressed with the standard of cooking and great flavours. This visit however was really disappointing. I had salmon en croute with a raisin butter. It was dry and overcooked and the raisins were practically non existant, I had two!

Hope this isn't the start of a decline in standards

If Sunday mornings are about reading the paper, contemplating the night before and preparing for the next week at work over a good fry up, then the banco is for you. A great selection of smoothies and juices, a good range of breakfasts from the good old fry up, poached eggs and salmon and a good veggie option, the staff are friendly and the atmosphere welcoming. Rather popular with the yummy mummies of Knowle and totterdown, so finding high chairs can be a problem, or finding a child free zone an even greater challange for those of you who want a quiet breakfast but overall a good venue. One drawback is the lack of aircon during the summer with no garden space either as it can be rather hot inside with the kitchens going full pelt.
