This is classy, stylish dining Pan Asian style. The menu takes a leisurely stroll around south east Asia, stopping on the way to lift classic and contemporary dishes from Thailand and Malaysia among others. From noodles to curries and delectable nibbles all washed down with Asian beers or Asian-inspired cocktails, it's an elegant affair. The restaurant, at the back of the room, is cosy with its padded, pistachio coloured seating and dark wooden tables lit by flickering tea lights. There's an early evening bargain menu worth catching before 7pm and a seasonal menu.

I love this restaurant, the staff are so friendly and the food is so fresh!
We usually go for the before 7pm meal deal which has the same great sized portions and loads to choose from. The normal menu is also very reasonably priced- especially for clifton! I love their range of pan asian beers as well as unique cocktails- all asian themed!
The only problem is that it gets pretty busy on Friday and Saturday nights so i would definitely recommend booking- especially if you're in a group.
Definitely try this place!

Disgusting

A disgusting restaurant. We had thin, watery soup with a layer of fat and raw mushrooms on top. The noodles were bland and greasy, with good stuff (prawns, fish cake, veg)
When we complained, the staff was insulting, refusing to offer us any alternative (we were willing to choose another dish, rather than have a refund), and called my poor husband 'cheap'! So humiliated, we weren't trying to get anything for free; we just wanted to get what we payed for!
terrible, terrible, terrible!

What a horrible experience! To cut a long story short, myself and my partner went for the 'early bird' deal. The starter was OK, the main, awful.
We both had the singapore noodles that boasted king prawns, fish cakes, and crisp veg on the menu. What we received was a big plate of greasy, soggy noodles, with just two prawns and four pieces of pepper (my partner had a er..generous five pieces). Truly bland, with no effort or care.
We complained, very politely, saying we'd like a refund or exchange, and the chap behind the bar refused to help us. He then invited his drunken friend who was slouched over the bar to offer his opinion. This was truly humiliating for both of us, a real disappointment.
I quote: 'well what do you expect for the money' I think he sums this place up in his own words. I complete disregard for the customer.
Don't bother with this terrible place. Instead, try Bangkok house on the nearby Whiteladies Road.

Did a lot of eating out last week!
Went to Bauhinia on Friday evening for an early supper with some friends.
It was my first time there and I am impressed. The restuarant is small but in a cozy way and well decorated.
A good selection of drinks with a large menu too.
I had the Chicken Satay for starter and also had some of the Duck Wraps my wife was eating, both were very tasty, portion size was good for a starter without being overbearing.
For main I had the Duck Udon, (thick noodles with duck sauce), filling and tasted the best I have had in far eastern cooking for quite a while.
Final prices were good for a Clifton Village restaurant too.
This is another place that I will look forward to visiting again soon.

A great pan asian restaurant loacted in Clifton Village. the menu is great, all the dishes sound tempting and it can take a while to choose. There is a great choice of Asian beers, some of which i had not come across before so it was great to try out something new.
The food is great, cooked quickly with clearly high quality ingredients, the pork dumplings were excellent as was the kari ayan chicken curry with sweet potato. Portion sizes are good and the prices are very good, especially if you get the early dinner menu which allows a statr and a main for £8 - really excellent value!
The staff are friendly and knowledgable - this is so importand but overlooked in many places. Our waiter knew everything about the food and the drinks and was happy to tell us about them.
I've also found out they do a take away service - another plus point - more high quality restuarants should offer take out services.
I highly recommend this restaurant.

I come here regularly with my husband and friends, the staff are always really friendly and the decor and atmosphere are great. The food is really good, I'm never disappointed. The choice is good and the prices really reasonable, always a good bet and nice seasonal options too.

From coffee to Heaven

When an evening develops from popping in somewhere for a coffee, to 3 hours later leaving having had finished a lovely three course meal you know something is very right. Bauhinia tempted us from the bar, into the restaurant with mouth watering smells and a menu full of promise. That promise was fulfilled beyond expectations. We shared a plate of soft-shelled crabs to start which was meaty and, unlike many crab dishes I've had recently (several in dedicated fish restaurants), actually tasted of crab - fresh, meaty and straight from the sea. The hint of chilly made the whole thing sing. Mains kept up the pace, with one stir-fried shredded duck and one pan-fried monkfish - both risk being over cooked but the kitchen were clearly in control and both dishes arrived looking good, and tasting better. It was a shared desert of fire crackers (set off nicely with the seasonal barrage of fireworks we could hear outside) which sealed the deal for a return visit - melt in the mouth parcels of dates and orange with a hint of chocolate. A gem nestled in the heart of Clifton village, Bristol that I will certainly return to. Oh, and the coffee, for which we bucked tradition and on this occasion had before the meal, wasn't half bad either!

We have been to Bauhinia loads of times and just keep going back! the food is excellent, and very fresh great service in lovely surroundings with good music. They have a two course meal for £8.50 on a evening before 7pm and they don’t down size the portions on this offer, even withought the offer the food it really reasonably priced. All in all a really nice place.
