What we say

Once a fledgling frontier watering hole in the building site that was the Paintworks creative business village, the 'Boca' has now developed, along with Paintworks, into a bustling, buzzing hub for the local community.

Housed in a converted Victorian redbrick warehouse, it serves as a watering hole by day for the arts and media folk who work on the Paintwork complex and then as bar/restaurant and live music venue by night for the folks of Totterdown and Briz. Weekends gets hectic too with Sundays pulling in everyone from families and young kids to parties celebrating a special occasion. The feel of the cavernous room is urban, industrial minimalism, with bare concrete floors, brick walls showing local art and a disparate collection of second hand furniture - all very shabby chic. A small outside, decked terrace is a sunspot in summer.

The food is as eclectic as the furniture, ranging from tapas and deli plates of posh salads to burger and chips, pizzas, great sandwiches and daily specials which can very good. The service is variable - painfully slow at times - but this is all part of the Bocabar's chilled-out charm.

This place used to be my 'local' so many lunchtimes were spent here. They have come on such a long way and service is, on the whole, so much better than it used to be. I would suggest a tasty Pizza if you're here for food. They are a bit expensive, but are worth it!

This is a great place to go with friends for a midweek drink and bite to eat

It's not cheap but has a nice ambience and the Pizza are the largest i have had, definitely big enough to share between two.

Bocabar serves fantastic wood-fired-oven pizzas, tapas-type nibbles and salads. It's a very laid-back environment with loads of sofas and a very open-plan layout, making it especially suitable for those of us with children. Highly recommended!

Great pizzas and tapas, excellent selection of drinks, really nice atmosphere. Hosted a really good food festival in the summer. When it opened a few years ago, it was a bit irritating as it opened sporadically but can't imagine South Bristol without it now!
