Four brothers established this always busy restaurant in Clifton in 1997 and it has developed a worthy reputation for offering the best of Indian cuisine with just a hint of the West thrown in for fun. The signature dish is Brunel Special King Prawns (“the size of small lobsters”) which come marinated in the chef's secret recipe, accompanied by pilau rice and unique sauces. There are several menus, both set and a la carte, and plenty of vegetarian options.

My parter and myself had booked a table for 9.30 on Friday Evening. We arrived at 9.25 and had to wait in small bar area as ther were already several people waiting. We found a seat and got a drink from the bar, we were shown to our table about 10 minutes later. The restaurant is relatively compact and was very busy. I finished my starter and then went to the toilet, when I came back my partner was not overly impressed with ther service as she was still finising her poppadom and the waiter came and cleared the pickletray and half her poppqadom. The main course came an the food was very nice. Several tables became empy whilst we were eating so why the waiter was so keen to move us along, is a mystery. I would definately recommend the food but thought the service was a bit rushed and on the verge of being rude.

I really enjoy the Brunel Raj. I have eaten almost every curry on the menu at some point over the past few years and not been disappointed with any of them. I would especially recommend the Jalfrezi and Rogan.
Curry's are tasy and, for me certainly, the right level of spice.
The staff are friendly and accommodating.
The price is very good, especially when compared to the quality of the food.
