What we say

Budokan is one of the most successful chains of Pan-Asian restaurants in the South West, built on a policy of using only the freshest ingredients in the preparation of its dishes, with a strong emphasis on visual presentation. Each dish on the menu has been chosen to reflect a comprehensive representation of Pan-Asian cuisine and is as authentic as the western palate will allow.

Budokan began in the city centre in October 1998, opening its second branch in Clifton in February of 2001, and both branches have grown in popularity ever since, as Budokan quickly became synonymous with good quality and value for money.

The restaurants have an individual style and aesthetic offering a unique dining experience, with big windows, subtle and contemporary lighting, and modern décor giving a fresh and vibrant atmosphere.

The menu spans Asia, with typical dishes from Japan, Thailand, Malaysia, Indonesia and Singapore, amongst others. The Chefs adhere to original Asian recipes and use authentic ingredients, to deliver a balance of unusual flavours, nutrition and value for money. Budokan take the utmost care to ensure that the finished dish they serve to you does not contain any genetically modified materials and, where possible, buy outdoor reared, free range meats and poultry.

Eating at Budokan is an informal experience – there are no starters or main courses. Food orders are cooked immediately, and individual meals are delivered at different times to a group of diners for them to enjoy and share as they wish.

I use Budokan at Clifton Down shopping centre regularly but I have to say I think the Colston Street one is much better. The food is always excellent at Budokan and the staff at this branch were great. For a quick, filling, and amazing tasting food it cannot be beaten.

I go to Budokan a lot, and brought friends who hadn't this time. As always I had their excellent Pad Thai, but was v. jealous of the veggie bento box that my friend had which was excellent. Staff are always nice and quick and it's worth the money

I was singing in the Bristol Choral Society's annual 'Messiah' at Colston Hall. Many of us eat here before our regular concerts in the hall in between rehearsal and performance. The food is always good and it has a buzzy, fun, informal atmosphere. Also, using the Platinum Card gets one 25% off so there's that extra bonus. Anyway, unfortunately, although i asked (more than once) that my food be brought promptly (I was with 5 other non-singers, 2 who arrived 45 minutes after I did) I had to wait ages. Mine was brought last-after the 2 last arrivals and I had to rush it down and run to get on stage in time. This did not make for maximum enjoyment of meal or concert!!! However, the curry was tasty as usual and I will just count this time as a blip, so will continue to go there!

We have eaten here 6 or 7 times and have to say that the food is always consistantly good. My favourite is Changmai Noodle, which is as good as I ever had in Thailand!! The staff are very attentive, friendly and polite. Service is generally good. Recomended.

Love this place - huge portions so good value for money and the food has a bit of spice and heat to it. Not really a place to linger, more a grab a quick bowl of noodles and go. Only downside on this visit was the gyoza dumpling starter - tiny portion of deep fried parcels which didn't taste of much - not great.

It would be nice if they did specials as if you go regularly the menu could get boring.
