When it first opened over 20 years ago in a single, small unit off the Gloucester Rd, the husband-and-wife owners were new to the restaurant business but were driven by a desire to bring back to Bristol an authentic taste of Mexico, discovered on holidays in Latin America. They stuck closely to those early principles and quickly developed a reputation which saw the place rammed thoughout the week. Mexicana has since expanded into the next door shop, revamped its look and menu and still holds its place as the place to go for Mexican food. The new look is still warm and intimate and the menu retains old favourites like the excellent fajitas alongside many new first class, modern options. Mexicana offers a great night out for couples or parties.

Just visited again for the first time in around 9 years, glad to see it's still going strong. Went with the Evening Post voucher & weren't treated with disdain but we did leave an extra good jockey!
Good quality food - main courses are very hearty, I never have managed to clean my plate - and their refried beans are just superb :))
Nice vibe & friendly staff - definitely recommend.

A lovely Mexican restaurant (far better than all the chains) which is always full and thriving - sometimes so full you feel a bit squeezed round the table but that just goes to show how popular this place is. The fajitas are always a safe bet - loads of filling, including re-fried beans, guacamole and sour cream alongside the sizzling vegetables and your chosen meat (or try the Ultimate Fajita for a mixture of all the toppings if you can't decide!). But, if you get a good day, the lamb shank can't be beaten. Great sized portions and guaranteed you'll be back for a return visit.

Went to Casa Mexicana, looking for Mexican food, and was pleasantly surprised to find that there was a great range of food, not just fajitas surrounding guacamole and salsa..Very good food and great value for money.
