Housed in the splendour of a fine, Georgian building set back from King St, this is quality stuff. The grand dining rooms are on two floors, possibly a little too formal for some tastes, but the Cantonese, Szechuan and Mandarin dishes are all well prepared by Chinese chefs and include many good options alongside the obvious favourites - try the soft-shell crab claws stuffed with minced prawns. The Sunday lunch buffet is also legendary.

Sunday Buffet

Have visited many times for the Sunday fixed price buffet (12.00 to 14.00) and it's great to be able to have as much of your favourite Cantonese dishes as you like. Puddings, as often in Chinese restaurants, are sadly limited to banana or apple fritters or fruit salad. Need to be there early ideally before 13.00

I have had many good meals at Cathay Rendevous in the past, but the last couple of times dining here have been not great at all. The food is now average where it used to be very good and the cost compared to some other restaurants is too high for the quality.
I have not been back for some time now so they may have turned it around and gone back to cooking some good quality food ~ but i am not going to be the one to try it out; I'll leave that up to someone else this time and they can write a more up-to-date review.
