Adding to the number of new restaurants popping up on the increasingly popular City Road, City Gate is the latest offering. The slick new glass-fronted restaurant opened late autumn last year and is already causing quite a stir amongst fans of Indian cuisine.
Crisp white linen table-cloths, comfortable red and blue high-backed chairs and a beech floor, all give a contemporary and stylish feel to the restaurant.
The halal food is all cooked to order using fresh ingredients along with their own selected spices and herbs imported directly from India and Bangladesh. For starters try the mixed tandoori or kebab puree, then follow with one of many traditional curries or one of their specialities like moni puree chicken - barbequed and blended with Bengal spices; or methi ghost - lamb cooked to a distinctive flavour with fenugreek leaves.

I've been eating at the City Gate and Havali since the restaurant was established. I have only good things to say about the place. The staff are very friendly and the food is always excellent. Since City Gate changed its name to Havali the presentation of the food has improved. I'd say the quality has stayed the same but that is no bad thing. There is a good varied menu to choose from. My friend loves the wrack of lamb while I love the veggy or fish dishes.
