What we say

A perennial favourite with Clifton's smart set and students who are drawn as much by the buzzing atmosphere as by the limited food selection. The fairly anonymous frontage gives little clue of the Tardis-like qualities inside which runs to intimate lounges, discreet nooks and crannies (should they be required) and a larger bar with flagstone flooring. Out the back is a heated courtyard/garden which is popular in the summer - order the jug of Pimms to go with the burgers and Pieminster pie and chips.

Clifton wine bar looks much nicer than the out of date photo on this site!

I popped in for a bite to eat not expecting too much. However, I was pleasantly suprised by what was on offer.

Looks like the menu is quite newly in place offering a nice selection of lunch time options (including a sandwhich or Jacket potato with a drink for just a fiver!), and plenty of more substantial main meal options. The emphasis seems to be on fairly simple meals, but all homemade and nicely presented.

After much deliberating I went for the fish and chips, which came out reasonably quickly considering I seemed to be caught up in the office crowd luch hour. When my food came it looked absolutely great and tasted even better! The fish tasted fresh, and was in a lovely light batter, and came with loads of chips and mushy peas. I thouroghly enjoyed my meal, but couldn't help wanting one of the burgers the guys on the next table had, as they looked and smelt so good!

After i'd eaten I had a thoughly enjoyable ciggie in the suprisingly big beer garden out the back, and ended up staying and watching the cricket on the telly for another hour when I really should've been getting back to work.

Overall I thought this place was great, and will definately be back next time I have too much time to kill!
