Home for the past few years to one of Bristol's finest chefs Stephen Markwick who, although semi retired and open only Thurs lunchtime through to Saturday night, is still serving up sublime dishes of near perfection. Stephen, with front-of-house partner and wife Judy, has deservedly earned an international reputation for his French and Mediterranean inspired dishes even Keith Floyd bows down to. Having stepped back from his eponymous and highly rated establishment in the city centre, he is now weaving his magic in the residential suburbs of Redland in this small, bright, modern bistro/café (too bright for some) where he serves a pared-down menu of bistro dishes - great value fixed-course lunches - and evening meals like brill baked in cider with tomato, thyme & mustard or ballantine of guinea fowl. The Provencal fish soup is to die for. You can also take a taste of Markwick home from the excellent Food for Home counter.

Had Lunch today at Culinaria as recommended by Fork 50. First plate game terrine, very good.
Mains Pheasant, dry splinters cooked the day before or from the fridge full of ready meals timeless classic. My meal spiced lamb and rice again like a ready meal. Service, what service my bill for £70 slapped down on the table, no contact during the meal. I think they should be a ready meal take away, time to call it a day. Return no chance, boring food, boring Ambience.

Great food, appalling service

Culinaria has a well-deserved reputation for great food, and my husband and I were really looking forward to a special anniversary meal. The food was indeed lovely, but the service was disdainful and supercilious, as well as very slow, and quite ruined our evening. Great shame.

I was really excited about going here as my husband and I loved going for meals at Markwicks ( was on Corn Street) and I understand its the same people who now run this place. The menu was reassuringly simple and I had the most amazing chicken liver pate for starter followed by sole ( can't remember what type) which was exquisitely cooked and had a delicate sauce with artichoke mash. The service was great and there was a good wine list to choose from that were all reasonably priced.
