What we say

Devoid of the usual flock wallpaper, stainless steel pickle trays and oily bhunas, Curry House is a refreshing change from the usual high street Indian. Established over 23 years, its clean lines, terracotta floors and calming block print modern art on vibrant walls are a welcome alternative, and owner Abdul Mashuk has recently achieved the 2006 five-star Food Hygeine Award (Bristol City Council), the Quality Food Online Gold Award 2006 and the Good Eating Guide Award 2006.

Seated at the contemporary wooden tables and elegant tall-backed chairs, you can relax in comfort while being served by a team of new-generation but experienced Indians.

After the obligatory papadams and pickles (which incidently are served up in funky ceramic dishes), try for starters, vegetable somosa with vegetable chat or the very tender pepper lamb - chargrilled peppers filled with spicy lamb and fresh coriander.

Mains include the wonderfully sweet and saucy chicken tikka massalla - chunky pieces of barbequed chicken in a sweet but tangy sauce with cashew nuts. For pescetarians, the king prawn kara massala, cooked with fresh ginger and served in a thick green and red pepper sauce with sultanas, is highly recommended - these enormous Bangladeshi prawns are really something to get your teeth into.

All dishes are beautifully presented on large white plates with aromatic speckled pilau rice moulds and delivered by smartly-dressed and charming waiting staff.

Went to The Curry House for a friends birthday, to me is doesn't have the feel of an Indian but i thought id wait for the food until i passed judgement.

Inside it feels like a IKEA Indian, all beech wood tables with high backed chairs and wood flooring created a strange atmosphere. Also it was a cold night and sat near the window it was freezing and until we starting eating 3 of us kept our coats on which is not good.

I fancied something different so i went for Chicken Kara Massala with rice £9 average for a curry with rice id say and so was the dish. Very red in colour chicken was well cooked and overall it was presented well on square plates.

I guess what I'm trying to say is this place is ok if your passing but there are better Indian restaurants in the area. Won't rush back

The Curry House like it names suggest isn't much bigger than your average house! but after going since 1983 these lads certainly know how to make a mouth-watering curry. soo friendly and eager to help, even the chef come out to see if i enjoyed my meal, and what a emal, Chicken Tikka Kara Massala - Vindaloo hot (at my request!) it came out on a huge plate with half a dome of pilow rice which looked cool and a lovely looking salad and thats all i done to it looked! one word of advice guys curry and salad dont mix! followed by a irish coffee i had this same meal 5days running for the week i was away from home. This place treated me like their own, i thank you guys if im ever in bristol again ill sure be back!
