This was a long time gentleman's club from a bygone age but all vestiges of the stuffy, male-only drinking den have been replaced by a choice of dining rooms sharp, crisp refit of wooden flooring, crisp white tablecloths and exposed medieval city wall. The lunchtime menu

A party of 4 of us ate here as a christmas treat, we had a great evening!
Cocktails to start, followed by a good bottle of white (the boys drank red) from an excellent wine list. Our food arrived promptly and with a smile. We all enjoyed our food and despite not having room for dessert we decided to share.
My only reservation is that there were no vegetarian specials, and whilst I enjoyed my meal I would like a choice for a change!
I've been here on a couple of occassions and always enjoyed the evening :-)

I had eaten here regularly with my girlfriends and none of us had ever had a bad meal, so when my husband wanted to take me out for my birthday this was my number one choice!
As I am a veggie and my husband a devoted carnivore it can be difficult finding a restaurant that suits us both, but there was a wide selection of dishes, and I particularly like the fact that the menu is changed daily depending upon what is available in the markets and in season.
My husband's steak was beautifully cooked and a nice size, but he was a bit put out that he had to order fries to go with it at an extra cost - surely steak should always come with chips?! I had a stuffed pepper which was full of lovely flavours, but a bit boring compared to some of the more unusual dishes I had eaten there in the past.
I would really recommend this restaurant to anyone who is after locally sourced, often organic food, simply cooked and full of flavour. But I would only eat here special occasions as it is a bit pricey for everyday! There are a number of different dining rooms to choose from, so you can sit in a posh private room, the more informal mezzanine area near the bar, or downstairs in the 'cellar', which is very informal and great for people-watching!
And the puddings are to die for....
