After a decade or more in the doldrums, this vast Gloucester Rd hostelry underwent a major refit and image overhaul and hasn't looked back since. Winner of Venue Magazine's Top Banana award (it was their favoured staff watering hole), the Flyer is a cavernous pub with lots of nooks and crannies all decked out with the faux feel of a library or sitting room. There's even a craft corner for the terminally bored. Out back is a heated courtyard/beer garden which is a popular spot throughout the year, and not only with the chuffing classes.
The food changes on a monthly basis and is good old comfort food, like doorstep fish finger sarnies or homemade cottage pie, steak and chunky chips as well as more healthy options like the halloumi ciabatta. The approach is light hearted, fun and decidedly upbeat.

Amazing top quality food, too good for a pub food, also the best roasts in bristol, a little bit expensive tho, also staff is very friendly & nice and cosy atmosphere

Lived on Gloucester Road for 3 years so went to the flyer many many times, always was great to go for a drink, have a good selection of wines and some lovely beers, however the food and the menu has been changed so often, so many different ideas, set menus, a la carte, early dinner etc, but has never really qiute settled.
The food always seemed a bit lost and out of place trying to be somewhere between robins hood retreat and the rising sun!!
In reality the food is just ok, nice burgers and steaks, but nothing really amazing, I still hold out hope that it will turn out some great food one day!!

I've been to the Goose twice now, once for Sunday lunch and again for some mid-week dinner. Really nice atmosphere, very inviting and cosy. The service is laid back but friendly. I'd like to say its studenty but its far from that. Its everything that the Gloucester road is about, laid back, chilled, alternative. good selection of food and drink. I had standard fish and chips and wasn't disappointed. Will visit again.
