Poets, musicians, storytellers and many more have entertained diners at Halo since it opened in stylishly refurbished premises, decorated with the work of local artists, in the summer of 2003. A wide variety of cocktails and bottled beers is available at the bar and the simple, reasonably priced food, featuring blackboard specials, is served from 1200 daily and changes as the day moves on. The relaxed, easy going atmosphere, makes it like a Sunday morning every day, particularly in the recently opened large rear garden, a peaceful, not say hallowed, retreat from the busy Gloucester Road.

Went here for a meal with my partner, it was very busy due to there being a private function but the waitress that served us was very friendly and efficient.
I had the steak which was very nice and cooked perfectly. The food was a little slow as they were very busy but was worth the wait and was reasonably priced. We also tried the cocktails which were very nice.
The only down side was that it was very busy and cramped to be trying to eat due to the amount of people there and it was very loud for the same reason. This gradually got worse throughout the evening as more people arrived. This didn't bother us and the waitress did offer us another table, but it probably wouldn't be to some peoples taste.

Our visit to Halo started badly with the waitress stood in the front doorway smoking when we were about to enter! Once inside we took a look at the menu which seemed to offer some decent selections. I opted for the double cheeseburger. About 10 minutes after we ordered, I spotted a young lad enter Halo and head up the stairs to the kitchen with a Somerfield bag containing a box of Findus burgers. I didn't think too much of this until my lunch arrived - a massive bun containing two tiny Findus burgers and a pathetic amount of cheese. The chips and salad looked fine but there's no way I was going to pay £8.50 for a double Findus burger, chips and salad! I sent it back and there was not a word of apology from the waitress. I ordered a steak ciabatta instead which actually turned out to be pretty tasty with nicely cooked steak, although it was on a bun not a ciabatta. I suspect this is because my wife's goat cheese fritter came in the last ciabatta they had as it was so stale it was rock hard.
When it came to paying, we were charged for my original burger order and not the cheaper steak ciabatta I replaced it with. Once that was sorted we left ASAP and needless to say didn't leave a tip!
