The Crown is part of The Harvester pub and grill chain and one of several in and around Bristol, and is situated on one of the main arterial routes serving the city. It comprises basically two parts, a dining block on one side and an L-shaped drinking area on the other. Harvester pride themselves on the freshness of their ingredients (spit-roast chicken and flame-grilled steaks are signature dishes), and the rolls and salads (unlimited supplies available to diners) are prepared on the premises and topped up all day. Puddings are a spectacular feature and mostly involve immense quantities of chocolate and ice cream, very popular with families. Get there early and place your order before 6.30pm Monday-Friday or before 5pm Saturday and you can get the famous one third Earlybird discount.

The meal itself was Ok, you do after all get what you paid for but the service was disgraceful.
You can't book a table, so we arrived at 1800 hrs and had to hang around by the door as there was no-one meeting and greeting, we were told we would have to wait 45 -50 mins for a table (which was odd as they were half empty), queued for drinks for an age as there was only one member of staff on the bar. After waiting over an hour on a to be seated at a dirty table with not enough cutlery, having to ask for a waitress when no one appeared to take our order after 10 minutes. Waiting for over 30 mins for the meal to arrive, minus one meal which we had to wait even longer for, using filthy toilets, having to ask for someone to clear the table and take a dessert order after waiting another 10 minutes at the end of the meal and then having to go in search of someone for the bill and ending up just leaving the money I can assure you I would never step foot in a Harvester again. Spend a bit more money and go somewhere where customer services is still observed.

Sorely disappointed with this visit. Sunday lunchtime and we expected it to be busy so we arrived at 1.45pm to miss the majority of the crowd. This according to the waitress was where we went wrong as by then it took me four choices from the menu before I could find a main course still available - this from a restaurant that is open ALL DAY. We were a table of four diners, (two adults, two children). Two starters were returned.. cold soup.. and frozen prawns and stale bread with the prawn cocktail. On to main courses...rare rather than well-done steak, obviously reheated food as the lemon wedge with the scampi was cooked, the tartare sauce had a skin on top and the chips bounced. Waitress was no help, and actually looked confused when we asked for the food to be redone. Steak returned burnt to a crisp on the outside and still no better inside. Third time, it had been cut down the middle (by the chef?) to check it before I got it. This was the same piece of steak cooked three times and the waitress couldn't understand my annoyance.
Unsurprisingly we didn't stay for dessert but had a Mcflurry for the children on the way home.

Normal Harvester fayre, really good and plentiful salad bar along with colouring pens etc for the children, always seems busy but never seem to have to wait too long for the food
