What we say

The latest venture of the Fosters Group, a long-standing, family-owned Bristol company, Jack's sits right on the edge of the city's stunning harbourside, offering acres of al fresco dining as an alternative to the clean lines of the contemporary interior. The cuisine is contemporary British with a European twist, based on the charcoal oven imported from Spain. The innovative menu, sourced locally and changed daily, ranges from brunch through light lunches and afternoon tea to an extensive a la carte list. If you don't fancy sitting outside you can get a seagull's eye view from the first floor dining area.

If you want a nice relaxed meal in a great location then look no further. Jacks has become our number one place to eat in Bristol.

With my girlfriend having a serious peanut allergy the fact she can eat here with no worry what so ever is fantastic, from the very first time we went the staff and chefs go out of their way to make sure she could have what ever she wanted, even down to adjusting the meals to accommodate her allergy.

The food is mouth watering, from our now regular visits for sunday lunch or special occasions with family too.

All in all you could not ask for anything more, and its just a short walk from the bars and the city centre.

A friend had reccomended Jacks to us and they were right to do so. We arrived at Jacks and were welcomed by a friendly waiter. They asked if we would like a drink in the bar first or if we wanted to go straight to the table. We decided to have a drink first and ordered a gin and tonic which was made exactly how i like it with a good squeeze of fresh lime, my partner had a pint of pilsner from czeck which he thought was great. We took a seat on the comfy sofas and sat back and enjoyed the view! The weather wasn't great so there wasn't too much going on outside but we cannot wait to return on a hot day and sit outside. After a short while the manageress came to see us and offered us menus and informed us of the specials. a liitle while later the lady returned and asked if we would like to order, there was no pressure at all but we were ready and starting to get hungry so we ordered and she told us that the table was ready when we were or she would let us know just before our starters were ready. we decided to take our seat a few mintutes later and the new zealand sauvignon blanc that had been reccomened to us was at the table already. A waiter quickly arrived at our table and poured the wine for us which was stunning. Not long after our starters arrived which were beautifully presented and tasted just as good. The same could be said for our mains. I asked for a red wine to go with my lamb and the waiter suggested the shiraz which was just as lovely as the sauvignon.

After our main courses we were offered dessert menus but asked if we could have a little time to recover as the portions are far from stingy. After much deliberation we decided to share a cheese and the waiter suggested a port to go with the cheese, which took me all of half a second to agree to. The cheese selection was fairly basic but the chutney that went with it was great.

We thoroughly enjoyed our dinner food and service was great and we are looking forward to our next visit, fingers crossed its a hot day!

Went for luch with family members. We all ate from their £5 menu and I had the steak and ale pie, not a huge portion (It is only £5) but filling and very well cooked. I had extra chips too which were very chunky and delicious. In total with extras and drink it came to £9 so a bargain lunch out.

Would definitely go again, only downside was the waiter was a bit disinterested but that's not a dealbreaker for lunches.

All present said their food was excellent and portions were adequate for lunch.

I visited Jacks on a Friday lunchtime and was pleasantly surprised with the place. The location does feel different in a strange way as we walked via the waterfront amphitheatre and then pass the Lloyds building.

However once we were inside we were met by pleasant staff and show where our table was, but not pressured into sitting down immediately, so we had a pre meal drink at the Bar.

The food was excellently cooked and the presentation was good but not over the top and portion sizes were just about right. Wine list was ok and the wine we chose good, service was very good and we were not pressured to move on, even though we were in the Christmas period. Will have no issues coming back again.

I went with two girlfriends and the food was lovely and very fresh. Service wasn't the best but the waitresses were pleasent enough. We booked and quoted the "50% offer" and got it. Well worth a visit.

I've always liked Jack's and have missed it during its 'seasonal closure'. Glad to say it's reopened - and how! Last night we had a fabulous meal - we both rated the food ten out of ten for mains and pud, the starter not quite up there but the whole package delicious and great value for money. The chips are even better than Riverstation chips (and that is praise indeed). There's a deal going on throughout April with food at 50% menu prices - but NB you have to ask for this deal when booking.

Two of us went for lunch. From outside only the menu board suggested they were open. We went in and found a very pleasantly decorated and furnished restaurant - my companion had eaten at Jack's before, but only outside - it was too cold for that today.

We were offered brad and olives which turned out to be an impressive platter which also included olive oil and balsamic and sundried tomato pesto. My main consisted of a very nicely slow-cooked piece of beef. No complaints.

Sat 23rd - breakfast at Jacks practically perfect, great food and attentive service - and I love the view from the outside tables. Mon 25th - sat down for lunch, ignored by staff who were busy doing something cutlery-related and eventually sloped off to Bordeaux Quay.

    Sigh.

Four of us ate here on a special deal, where two of the party, who are regulars, got given a voucher for two free courses each for four people. We only had to pay for drinks and any extra courses. It's a great space, with good views over the harbourside, staff are friendly and efficient, and the food is pretty good. My only criticism is that the chunky chips weren't crispy enough (though other people's chips, on other tables, looked better as far as we could see), and my partner's linguine sauce was a bit too oily. Good portions, though, and the puddings were to die for.

We have eaten in Jack's quite a few times now and I really like it - the food is good quality, well-cooked and very well presented, and is execllent value for money. The service is very good too. We have taken a large group for lunch twice (20 people then 16 incl children) and have found Jack's very accommodating. Worth a special trip as it's a bit off the main drag.
