Java is the language of the thirteenth largest island in the world; of one the computer industry's major computing languages; and, most importantly, of sophisticated and stylish relaxation at the resting place of artefacts of the most successful and graceful of the Edwardian-era passenger liners, R.M.S.Mauretania. Java Bar and Lounge is a members' club but this just means that, as a member, you get certain privileges on certain occasions. You don't have to be a member to escape from the bustle of Park Street and pop in to the bar café for a quick lounge on the deep comfy sofas while sipping a coffee or liqueur and nibbling a Danish and marvelling at the spectacular wood panelling which came to Bristol when the “Maury”, launched in 1906, was broken up in 1935. Outside, as you walk up Park Street from the south, the first moving neon sign installed in Bristol, in 1938, “MAURETANIA”, invites to come on board.
