One of the finer curry restaurants in the South West, Kathmandu offers high-class food with an extensive wine list. The classy yet relaxed atmosphere and friendly service mean diners will feel right at home with the choice of Indian or Nepalese cuisine. The Chhoyla - lamb cooked in charcoal with ginger and garlic, Sea Bass Nani and Duck Makalu all come highly recommended for those wishing to break away from traditional curry-house meals in favour of Nepalese flavours and spices - imported from Nepal itself. If it's something different from the average lager-and-takeaway experience you're after, Kathmandu is a trip worth making.

Although all the other reviews are fairly old I decided based on those to visit Kathmandu for the first time. I was not disappointed. its a mixture of Indian and Nepalise which seems to fit well. There 5 of us and we were seated (without booking in advance) fairly quickly. Service was attentive and welcome. The range of drinks were as usual beers, wines and spirits so nothing special but the food was good. Very tasty, you could feel the spices and herbs coming through with every meal and it was plentiful. Definately a place I will be re-visiting in the near future

Glad to see a high rating for the Kathmandu, as it is simply superb! Been a few times now & cannot fault it in any possible way. Very friendly & attentive staff who will be happy to modify the food to your tastes - if you want something a bit hotter for example, or milder - but I like it just the way it is! Sea Bass Nani, Natapole & Lobster Masala are particularly divine. Great ambience - quite chilled out & no rowdy crowds. Portion sizes are just right, you don't waddle away with that horrible bloated feeling.... and it's great value. Great everything!

Delicious, Must Try!

My husband and I have dined at Kathmandu twice and have gotten take-out several times. The must have dish is the Mo Mo, delicious dumplings in a heavenly sauce (had this at lunch, not sure if it's on the dinner menu)! The hosts and waitstaff are humble and attentive; very helpful in explaining dishes, too. The venue is absolutely lovely; the ambience is comfortable and fun. Unfortunately, the Nepalese dishes are not for take-out. Our take-out must have is the Llamb Pasanda, tender pieces of lamb in a delicious flavorful sauce. Last time I checked there's a 25% discount on take-aways. We love this place!

This place is just amazing!! Exceptional food and then add the atmosphere which involves you on the authenticity of nepalese culture. The deco is a real delight, so defined and detailed.
Is all so traditional, and seems the owners and staff are nepalese people too. They are so polite and helpful.
The food speaks by itself, is definately an experience nobody should miss.
I've been several times to Kathmandu, just can't remember how many!?

With a large group eating together before Christmas you'd not usually raise your hopes, but this meal was well worth eating and the service, despite a busy restaurant, was fine.
Not having been to the restaurant before I was not expecting such a well-cooked and tasty meal as most Indian restaurants seem to have identical food. I congratulate the team at Kathmandu for making a real effort to cook a wide range of curries. All the group were happy and I was pleasantly surprised at the quality of the vegetarian dishes I had.

Love, love, LOVE this place. Run by a family who really care about their food and service, you never feel rushed (which is sometimes the norm in Indian restaurants) and the menu is genuinely exciting (try the Nepalese food - Mo Mo dumplings rock). A classy affair which is head and shoulders above the many run-of-the-mill Indians you come to expect - perfect for a special 'celebration' meal.

Very good food in this place, I can definitely recommend a visit here. It is something for a finer night out, not for a quick crab, but for real good food dining experience. And it is in the Centre of Bristol, and there should be more good restaurants in the centre.

Hats off to Kathmandu. From the decor to the staff to the food & drink - all mix to produce a truly authentic experience.
Hats off again for not having Vindaloo on the menu - the Madras is more than enough!
My best curry in Bristol by a mile so far.

Wow ! We stumbled across this great restaurant, located in Colston Tower a month ago and have since been back there twice ! The food is brilliant, the waiting staff are all dressed in traditional Ghurka uniform and are polite and efficient. I had the Nepalese special which was a really good sized portion and filled me up. I would definitely recommend this place
