The first, and possibly best, of the burgeoning Lounge Group empire which began life in 2002 as a modest, single shop outlet transformed into a ramshackle but homely bar and café for the revitalised south Bedminster neighbourhood. It has since expanded into next door and undergone a slight facelift but still retains the core elements of what is now the Lounge signature style: an informal, neighbourhood, food-led café/bar offering a blackboard menu which changes with the seasons and uses local ingredients to provide all day breakfasts and a range of paninis and ciabattas as well as proper burgers and more substantial restaurant-like dishes. Also on offer is a selection of coffees, teas, smoothies, juices, cookies and pastries, and some wines and draught beers. There are newspapers to read, board games to play and books to swap. It's laid back, unpretentious and successfully offers a little more to the standard café/bar fare but not so much as to make it a full-blown restaurant.

The SW Lounge group have a winning formula and they stick to it - well appointed buildings, good service, reasonably priced quality food, free papers/books/board games. The only downside is that they don't take booking for evenings so you can turn up on a weekend night and find it standing room only and have to either wait or go elsewhere. The specials board is reviewed regularly and I always have trouble in making my mind up as there's so much choice. All this and freshly squeezed OJ and a cracking cup of coffee!
