What we say

A lovely, old Italian restaurant selling fresh fish with the odd French and English touch thrown in for good measure. As you'd expect from a long-running trattoria which first opened in Bristol over 25 years ago, it has a romantic feel which makes for an ideal intimate dinner with a significant other. There's a warm, family feel to the welcome which is charming and the extensive menu is heartily traditional - their desserts are spectacular finishes to already satisfying dishes so go in with a rumbling stomach. Tucked away on the market steps off Baldwin St, the place is a lot bigger than it appears.

Got to Bristol midday for a weekend away and stopped by this restaurant for lunch upon reading good reviews.

The food was just amazing, the Mushroom Risotto was cooked perfectly and tasted delicious, a real pleasure to eat. My partner had the Salmon Linguine which I am told was equally good. Service was a bit spotty, we felt there was an air of condescension from one particular waiter, but this did not affect our overall meal.

The surroundings were nice, comfy and cozy and very rustic. Well situated and not too difficult to find - great for a spot of lunch or perhaps a romantic evening meal, provided you don't meet the waiter who does not seem too happy to be there.

Would probably eat there again, based on the quality of the food - and also the manager/boss was supremely well mannered and courteous, a very nice guy!

Portions were good and fairly priced.

Very nice old style Italian with a particularly great menu. The food was delicious and the service was excellent.

A nice change from the standard Italian chain restaurant!!

We ate at Marco's whilst staying in Bristol for the weekend in order to visit a friend's exhibition.

We hadn't booked a table but were nevertheless seated fairly promptly. I was impressed with the overall feel of the place; it was bustling and had a warm and friendly vibe. I ate a simple dish of pasta and salmon which didn't disappoint.

I did however find that two of the waiters who served us, whilst being attentive and efficient, exhibited an unfortuntate air of condescension. This appears to be a problem endemic to restaurants over a certain standard and, as such, could serve as a touchstone of quality. However, I find this kind of behaviour sad and juvenile and prefer to be served by people who are genuinely open and relaxed.

I absolutely love this restaurant and have visited it at least 3 times in the last year. We even had our work party here.

The food is fantastic - i would definitely recommend the scallops in the tomato and chilli sauce. The service is great. All the waiters are friendly and welcoming. It feels like a very family orientated restaurant.

For the amazing food that is served i would say that the price is very good too.

    An absolute must!
