What we say

'Honour Your Hunger’ is the slogan at this impressive pan Asian self-service restaurant which opened in Nottingham in the summer of 2008. They certainly do the honours when it comes to delivering great, value-for-money meals. It’s a simple concept which has worked well in Liverpool and Derby beforehand. They now offer Nottingham diners the opportunity to help themselves to a selection of Malaysian, Thai, Chinese or Japanese dishes from the buffet or to sample the noodle and sushi bar or teppanyaki grill in the grand evening buffet and all for a very reasonable fixed price. The buffet also includes desserts and fruit, a chocolate fountain and soft ice-creams. Apart from being able to help yourselves to all you can eat, the May Sum style really suits those of you looking for a fast, tasty bite to eat although the sharp, contemporary canteen also encourages those of you looking for a sense of occasion. The wine list is comprehensive too with great old and new world choices. It’s a class act.

I went there today under the recommendation of friends and i am sad to say that it was a huge let down. The moment i step in, two plump man at the door greeted me rather rudely. When i went to the bar to get some drinks, the bartender at the bar was very arrogant. He ignored me even though i tried to order some drinks and later did the same to my husband.

The lifeless girl who was serving our table displayed an attitude that shows she rather be anywhere but here. I'm shocked to see such waiters being hired. Where is the politeness, courtesy that should be on display. It is rather sad to see a collective effort being destroyed by a few bad apples. I wish the owner would read this review and give it a thought.

I do hope the next time i visit, much change has been made.

I went to May Sum Nottingham today for the 1st time only because Big Wok is closed for renovations and was thoroughly disappointed.

From the time we were "greeted" at the door the staff had an unfortunate attitude. Those that weren't arrogant were ignorant. The Sumo wrestler that was replenishing the buffet would just push straight through you to get to where she was going.

The buffet area is small compared to Big Wok with far less choice and was a manic free for all due to no smooth flow for customers to follow, i.e diners were pushing in from both ends and the middle of the line, with the Sumo barging through everyone to relenish dishes. I have been to Big Wok many times and not feared for my 5 year old's safety when she was getting food but no way was she going near this lot.

It is more expensive than Big Wok and to cap it all off they charged me £3.50 for my 20 month old to eat 2 prawn crackers and an ice cream!!

I will never be going there again.
