Located in historical King Street in the heart of theatre land, Myristica is a treat for anyone venturing into the city centre. A large restaurant yet with an intimate feel, there are two bars as well as a private room for 25 people.
The creation of two brothers, Amit and Tosh Lakhani, Myristica was opened early in 2007 after undergoing a refurbishment to a very high standard and now boasts linen-clothed tables and comfortable fan-backed chairs beneath luscious turquoise drapes and bare stone walls.
Food wise, Myristica offers something a little different from the usual Indian; the talented Indian Chefs have experience in some of the world’s top hotels and restaurants and offer an array of typical Indian dishes, whether it’s a snack or a feast you’re after. The menu is short, offering only the freshest selection of seasonal dishes. Unlike many Indian restaurants which have one base sauce to which they add the seasoning for each dish, at Myristica all dishes are made to order, in their own individual way using the best ingredients available, many imported from India. The new open kitchen also features a fresh fish counter where guests can choose their fish, which is then prepared by the Chefs before their eyes.
Delicious and well-presented dishes include jumbo tandoori prawns marinated in lime and fresh coriander, and glazed with honey and chilli; or bhel puri – a mixture of chickpeas, puffed rice, puris and spicy peanuts topped with chilli chutney. Mains run along the lines of lamb chettinadu – New Zealand lamb cooked on the bone in roasted coconut and spicy gravy; or darl makhani – black lentils cooked in the tandoori oven with a rich cream sauce.
There is a decent wine list to accompany your meal, with many available by the glass. ‘Myristica’, meaning nutmeg or spice, aspires to be the name on everyone’s lips and part of the vocabulary for food lovers in the south west.

Extremely disapointed. Used the myristica regulaly a few years back and the food/service was outstanding. Went a few days ago to celebrate birthday with my family. Food was disgusting. All meals were cold and most seafood dishes . The exception to this was my fathers Sea Bass which was burnt. Wine was heavily overpriced and i could go on and on. Very upset and feel this restuarant is staying afloat due to its past reputation. I will not be visiting again. Thankyou for ruining my night out.

Tried this restaurant one evening on a break in Bristol - recommended by other reviewers. After having tried many Indian restaurants, we were not blown away by the food here. The decor is nice, interesting pots of nibbles at the waiting area and nicely furnished.
The reception staff are polite, friendly and courteous, and we were given a table fairly quickly even without a booking. Our waiter was attentative, although as it got busier we were served by several different people, making it difficult for them to keep track of what was happening next on our table!
The food order was taken promptly, and our food arrived in good time. The food itself was tasty enough, nothing to complain about, but at the same time was not particularly amazing either. We have definitely had better from other places, but it was well presented and was pleasant to eat.
Prices were fair but portions were perhaps on the small side - we didn't leave hungry however.
The Peshwari Naan bread was good, and definitely the highlight of our meal.
Towards the end when the restaurant got busier, we were left to sit for a while before we managed to get our bill. Plates and courses were served and cleared in good time, however once we had finished the meal it seemed like all focus turned to other customers - and we had to ask for the bill 3 times before we finally were allowed to pay! Which seems awfully odd, and there were a few waiters who were clearly just daydreaming around the tables when they could have been checking if customers needed something; like the bill.
Would probably not eat here again as there are many better places to eat in Bristol!

This was my first and most def not my last visit to this restaurant. The staff make you feel very welcome and are happy to explain the menu, which, it must be said is different to most.
The food is excellent.

This is certainly one of the finest Indian meals I have in Bristol for some years. Very well balanced flavours, I would most certainly go back and highly recommend it.

Booked a table via the impressive website at Myristica nd were not dissapoited at all! On Arrival were greeted and shown to the lounge whilst waiting for our friends and were immedialtly offered drinks. At the table the poppodoms to nibble whilst choosing were unusual and accompanied by tasty pickles and chutneys. The food we had was superb, some very unusual dishes and a super choice of desserts as well. Can not wait to return

I'd been looking forward to visiting Myristica for a long time after reading good reviews, the menu was great and it was genuinely hard to decide what to eat. The assortment of pappadoms was a really good start with a mix of rice and regular pappadoms and a good selection of dips. The spiced indian rabbit starter was great, the meat had a rich flavour and was well cooked. The venison achari was quite nice, a little dry due to overcooking but the pickling spices gave a nice flavour which was nicely acompanied with spinach mash. A good range of interesting beers made a nice change from the standard cobra or tiger and the service was friendly although a little slow. Probably wouldn't pay a second visit but i'm glad i went.

Definitely not like an ordinary curry house. The decor was spacious and minimal which is a nice change. It was a bit quiet when we first got there (round about 7.30) but it started getting busy round about 8 so that ended to the ambience and the whole experience.
Got to say the food was amazing! Not like other curry places i've been to (where they would have the normal curries served with different meats like a Jalfrezi Lamb/Chicken/Prawns etc...). There were so many things on the menu which sounded amazing and unusual. It really does make a difference with the fresh ingredients that are sourced locally!!
The service was excellent too and the waiter was more than happy to help us with the choices (I had a fish which didn't have a sauce and when i ordered rice with that, he immediately pointed out that there was no sauce and that he worried that it might be a bit dried, so suggested that he can ask the chef to make a sauce to go on the side!).
Will definitely be going back!!!

A very decent fine dining Indian, rather than rushed typical curry house. Like the unusual menu and all flavours were clean and freshly cooked. Thought some elements of the menu were expensive but worth it for a special occasion dinner - as it was my mum's b'day they did candles and didn't charge for her dessert. I personally think the ambience could have been better - didn't feel cosy enough and music wasn't great. Really good service.

Excellent Indian eaterie in the center of town. Don't be tempted to go for your normal bhuna or tikka masala, the very helpful waiters will be more than happy to recommend one of the more unusual dishes that you won't find in your local Indian restaurant. The food was delicious and the general feel of the place was very upmarket and relaxing. We'll definately be returning.
