Old India is situated in a magnificent mahogany panelled Grade II Listed building on St Nicholas Street. They have created a Colonial Club atmosphere that would be both recognisable to British residents and Indian Princes alike.
Old India is delighted to offer you the cuisine of Mogul kings of days gone by. With specialist ingredients from rare spices through to exotic fresh vegetables, poultry, meat and seafood, the menu combines traditional Indian flavours and earthly delights with princely style.
Executive Chef Majrul Haque has been mastering the art of culinary delights for over 25 years. He heads a team of professionals dedicated to producing the highest standard of great dishes from the menu. His attention to detail is what sets these dishes apart, from his superb special biryani-e-gosth to the sea bream in mustard sauce, a popular choice for regular customers.
The Management's philosophy here is "Upmarket, authentic and modern. We like to think the restaurant encapsulates the pivotal position of Indian cuisine in the Bristol restaurant scene" - something it looks very much like it has achieved.

Not the Best in Bristol

It was OK ...... The first thing that struck me when I sat down was the slightly odd decor - those chairs are weird & so out of place with the rest of it - and they really need to replace the carpet on the stairs!
Menu much bigger than what is on the website, but I don't think it is particularly 'avant garde'.... My friend had a chicken sag - it was just called something different - & I had the crab Massala which looked really unappetizing but was actually quite nice and HOT, I had to order a raita especially! Had a sag paneer to share that was OK; a bit dry & the cheese was in tiny pieces rather than blocks.
It seems to be popular with large groups - I found the atmosphere a bit lacking to be honest but the food was certainly edible & reasonably priced; I still rate Kathmandu on Colston St as the best in that area

The finest Bristol restaurant, accompanied with an escort
Recently separated, lonely and bored me and the ex used to have such a busy social life. With that all smashed to pieces once a month I give myself a little treat that makes me feel so much better. I love fine dining at Bristol’s excellent restaurants and I also love female company. I book myself a table and I book myself an extra pillow (the new phrase for an escort). The lady who accompanies me is a great conversationalist, attractive, down to earth and goes by the name of Anna. Anna can be seen at www.extrapillow.com/bristol-escorts

Was actually very dissapointed with Old India, especially after all the hype! The standard of food was average, the service was poor and the ambience and decor was surprisingly underwhelming! for such a beautiful building justice to it has not been done inside.
If i was in town and i wanted a curry i would eat here but only if Tikka Flame and Myristica were fully booked, they stand head and shoulders above this mediocore Indian. Anyone who has eaten in a lot of restaurants will appreciate this.
If you want something special this is not the place to go!!!

Went here with my boyf on a 'date' well i left completely round and full with a massive grin on my face, one of the best curry houses I have been to!
The dining area is really pretty with huge shash windows makes it a real old fashioned setting sooo cosy!
Prices are reasonable and service is ok, there was a big party there when we went so were a big forgotten at times but wasnt suprising as the party kept them rushed off their feet!
All in all a really enjoyable night with fab food!!

We had a lovely meal for two to celebrate a birthday. The food was good quality and the choice excellent. As lovers of Indian food, we were very impressed. The setting of the old Corn Exchange was atmospheric and led to interesting conversation. The service was outstanding, very attentive without being bothersome. I would recommend it. The only drawback was that the restaurant was a bit cold - it was a very cold night and the ceilings are high in the Old Corn Exchange. If you go on a winter's night, wear a jumper!

I really loved Old India - had a really sumptous colonial feel in a beautiful historic building - makes a change from your new build restaurants. The service was prompt (maybe a little too prompt as always with Indians!) and the food was great and I feel, reasonably priced for central Bristol. Hidden away but worth seeking out.

Best Indian Resturant ever!

I absolutely LOVE Old India. It is by far the best Indian resturant I have ever been to. My friends and I eat there regularly and have never had a bad meal. It can get quite busy on the weekends so it's usually best to book. The service is always good, we had to wait about 10 minutes for our table once but they gave us free poppodoms so we didn't mind. I would definately reccomend this resturant to anyone who loves Indin food.

This has to be one of the best Indian resturants in the city. Immaculate resturant and impressive setting of an old bank. The food is great and very enjoyable. Take a few friends and enjoy the evening! Recommended!

Great food, service was a bit slow but then it was the Jazz festival - a good restaurant in a great location (some of the best of Bristols pubs are on King Street). I had the most delicious mild lamb dish, we all enjoyed it. (watch out for the Popadom/pickles cost - as they charge for the pickles per popadom so ends up more than you expect). Oh and the staff actually receive their tips even if you give them on card (unlike alot of restaurants)

This is a great place to eat. The dinning area is lovely with the tall ceiling and white table cloths give a clean professional feeling. The food is superb; two dishes that I would recommend are the prawn starter (Jinga Til Bhaia) and the Chicken Chooza Makhani :) If you enjoy Indian food and would like to indulge yourself, have a meal in Old India.
