Privately owned by Laurence and Helen Beere, the celebrated Olive Tree Restaurant has gained a reputation as a relaxed contemporary restaurant offering excellent cuisine, fine wines, and great service. Occupying three basements whose floor levels step down, following the road's incline, the Olive Tree was recently refurbished, creating a sophisticated atmosphere whilst retaining the warmth and friendliness of the personal and attentive service offered by an experienced restaurant team.
The cooking of Marc Salmon, who joined as Head Chef at the beginning of 2005, following a career as Sous Chef at both the Royal Crescent Hotel and the Priory in Bath, is a creative blend of modern British cuisine with some Mediterranean influence. Marc is passionate about the use of seasonal ingredients, sourced from local suppliers ensuring that his menus reflect the very best of the West Country.
Lunchtime menus offer diners the choice of a set 2- or 3-course lunch, from £14.50. However, the restaurant is popular with local business people and shoppers for its simple lunch à la carte menu, where many of the dishes are priced as starters or main courses. The evening menu offers guests a full à la carte of over 20 dishes changing on a regular basis.
The wine list offers guests an extensive collection of more than 200 wines from some of the UK's top suppliers.
Voted "Best Restaurant in Bath 2005" the Olive Tree is one of the West Country's great culinary experiences.

An intimate anniversary celebration. Couldn't pick a better dining experience, fabulous menu prepared beautifully. Try to find fault? Only comment would be that they source local fresh produce, yet here we are in JUNE with no asparagus on offer, but so what, in June, it's cheap enough to cook at home! Terrific selection of quality wines as well as Bath Ale!

The Olive Tree has regained its fine dining status in our book, faultless, thoroughly enjoyable evening all round! The risotto starter is divine, if a little small in portion!

The O Tree has been our favourite special occasion fine dining for ever but this is the first time we've visited on a Saturday night, can't quite put a finger on what was wrong, maybe the intimate feel isn't there when they are so busy, but we didn't come away with that "We've dined at the Olive Tree" feeling!

Coming from Cardiff for a short stay as a treat for my wife I was not sure what restaurant to book. Based on previous reviews i decided on the Olive Tree. The menu had lots of interesting choices with exciting twists.
My brill was cooked to perfection and the sweetness to my wife's choice of duck breast being provided with sweet potato worked well.
Even the puddings which we often find lets down a restaurant were imaginative and well put together.
The service we found excellent. When I asked for advice about which dessert wine would be a good choice we were offered a sample to help us decide. This was just one example of the good service we received

I'd have to say this is probably one of the best restaurants I have been in.
The restaurant itself is very nice with a nice atmosphere without being pretentious.
The menu is mouth watering with an extensive wine list to match. The service is how you would come to expect for a restaurant of this quality.
I had a special discount of 3 courses for £22.50 but I think it would be closer to £35 for 3 courses on an evening.
This place should be saved for special occasions a true gem!

My wife and I had been to the Olive Tree previously and had found the food to be anywhere between average and good. On this occasion it turned out to be very good indeed, maybe the recent refurbishment efforts upstairs in the Queensbury Hotel have rubbed off on the chef!!
My wife and I always choose different dishes so that we can try as much as we can whilst enjoying our treat out and my fish and my wifes pork where both excellent mains, dessert for me was creme brulee and for my wife, chocolate something or other.
My only critisism is the wine list, like most modern restaurants they tend to bottle it and just go for a safe range (however they did have a good Californian Zin we enjoyed) to max their profit, nevermind, well worth a visit and why not stay the night upstairs!
