This is my favorite local pub. The food is always excellent, interesting, hearty without being unnecessarily fiddly + poncy. Service is friendly and relaxed. I recently had a stargazey pie, slowcooked rabbit with crayfish and a cup of tea (separate). Read the paper. Went and looked at the pigs in the garden. They don't mind having the kids there though don't do any specific food for them. They're usually happy with a few chips + some bread + buttter along with any scraps I ca bear to part with.
I'm a bit loathe to recommend this place in case it gets too busy..

We had our March book club meeting here. We did arrive quite late so decided against starters but the main courses were yummy. Service is always a bit slow even when you are the only ones in the restaurant! But the food is always excellent. I would recommend this place!!

Instead of exchanging presents with a group of friends, every year we visit the Pony & Trap on the weekend before Christmas to celebrate the festivities in good company over great food.
The food is always delicious, wine fantastic and the ambience relaxing and enjoyable. Being a local lass, I can always guarantee to bump into someone I know with this year being no exception!!
Josh and his team run a great place and if you're ever stuck for someone to go this should be at the top of your list - it's always at mine!

Everyone knows you can cook a better roast than any of the pubs out there: those frozen roasties come out, anaemic gravy and over-cooked veg like 'grandma' used to do...Well, no longer do we have to subject ouselves;- hail The Pony and Trap! I have been here many times, the food is simply beautilicious and portions to suit my insatiable appetite. It may cost you a couple of quid more, but boy is it worth it. The roast beef or 'ramp of beef' as I name it. due to its vastness, was tenderly slow-cooked and heart warming, and the selction of seasonal veggies perfectly cooked and full of the vitmains they had whilst still in the ground etc.
Everything here is remarkable, the panoramic view of Chew Valley, the service, the paper they use for the menu, even the toilets smack of 'I'd come back here again'. Well done to Josh, the young head chef, an inspiration to all young entrepreneurs and thank you for allowing me the pleasure of eating without washing up on a Sunday (and every other day) again. Hooray!

Last night myself and some friends went for dinner at the Pony & Trap and what an experience it was.
This place has everything you could want in a country pub.
The Pub itself is a gem, tasteful decor and the kind of atmosphere you would want to dine in.
The menu was full of interesting dishes and combinations. The food is local, seasonal & British all four of us were having real trouble deciding. After a lot of deliberating I went for the Venison Terrine (£5.00) it was a delight, lot's of different flavours and a good size starter portion.
For Main course I went with the Duo of Pork with a char grilled pork fillet and braised belly, Black pudding and Celeriac puree. Served with Sautee pots and seasonal veg (£12.00) this dish was absolutely stunning and presented with astute care it was a real wow feeling when the plate hit the table.
My friends had Confit Duck leg and Chicken in a chestnut mushroom & ham sauce. Everyone was very complimentary about the food and the wine and service was to match, all top marks.
All puddings are home made and created by the chef's. We shared two puddings between the four of us, as we didn't think we could manage one each. We chose the Sticky toffee pudding with toffee sauce and clotted cream ice cream and the rum & vanilla panacotta with a berry compot. Both were extremely good and two empty plates once more.
A very enjoyable experience and we all said what an incredible meal we had
Well done Pony & Trap we will be retuning soon for sure!

We have been visiting the Pony & Trap for many years, and seen it change from a farmers local to the lovely gastro-pub it is now.
It's great for a special occassion or a weekend treat.
Even the humble burger dish is prepared with love and care.
Thoroughly recommend. 5*****

The man that supplies the coffee to this delicious hide-away tipped me off when it first changed hands. I ignored his recommendation for too long - it’s really good.
On a cold February night, the network of rooms and snugs at the Pony & Trap is the winter tonic that your stomach’s been yearning for all week.
Maybe it’s because pigeons fly fast that they taste so good when you catch one. You don’t get a whole pigeon at the Pony & Trap but the plump breast made for a noble first course, the accompanying sauce reduced to a rich, burgundy treacle.
My other half opted for the rump steak as a main that was generous if a little too chewy for me, (why do people ever choose to eat steak ‘medium rare’?).
My smoked haddock on good old fashion mash was rich, creamy and almost too scrummy and filling. For a moment, I almost turned down the dessert menu.
But fear not, we opted to share a lemon possett and it was the high point of a great feast; as creamy and lemony as you could ever dream a pudding to be.
Chef/patron Josh Eggleton has a great palate and the talent to construct classy British food. If the setting of the Pony & Trap is quiet, the food is symphonic.

This is a lovely pub with fantastic food and a great atmosphere. The prices are reasonable and the only criticism is that the service can be a bit hit and miss. On this last visit, however the service was very good.

I am so lucky to have this as one of my local pub/restaurants. Food is reasonably priced and really really good! The service has tended to be a bit hit and miss in the past but this time, the new staff, were more attentive. I am a lucky lucky girl, but getting very fat for all the eating out I do...
