Sitting in the splendour of the Rajpoot Restaurant marvelling at the number of people that go jogging on the Downs, it is easy to believe that the British Empire is still intact. A sumptuously refurbished family-run Indian restaurant set in an exquisite Georgian house, the Rajpoot Restaurant has been designed for your utmost comfort and enjoyment and remains Bristol's original alfresco Indian restaurant.
The Rajpoot offers the ultimate in luxury and comfort for that special meal - from the moment you walk under the welcoming blue awning, it is like stepping back in time to the days when India stood for all that was best in British service and excellence.
You dine in one of Bristol's finest Georgian buildings. The linen table cloths are perfectly crisp, the chairs are comfortable and the cutlery is weighty.
The restaurant has the added accolades of been awarded Bristol City Council's food hygiene award, a high rating from Harden's and the "Heart Beat" award for healthy eating.
Exceptional authentic Indian cuisine includes the favourite chicken tikka masalla - now even better and has not been surpassed by tempting new rivals such as chilli fried calamari, spicy crab cake and the delicious pan-fried chicken livers.

Located in Clifton facing the Downs from the moment you step inside the Rajpoot it feels noticeably more impressive than your usual Indian restaurant. From the decor to the place settings it feels like a slightly more refined Indian dining experience.
As my group had been for a few drinks prior to our booking I felt that we were perhaps a little noisier than the usual groups that dine here. The staff however were extremely friendly and didn't act as if we were disturbing the peaceful atmosphere that would seemingly have existed wthout our presence.
Some of the groups eyes were bigger than their bellies so I was able to try a few of the dishes. The Chicken Bhuna and Chicken Tikka were tasty with good size chunks of tender meat. The highlight however was the Tandoori Trout which was ordered as a few of us wanted to try it without committing to it as a main dish. I would have no concerns about ordering it again.
Although it is marginally more expensive than most Indian restaurants I have eaten in, the quality of the food and the overall experience is undoubtedly worth the premium. I would definitely return to the Rajpoot

I go to the Raj poot whenever I can and have never been dissapointed with a meal there. From a weeknight to their Valentines special's they cannot be beaten. The staff are attentive without being in your face and the manager is brilliant at remembering your names and what you do. It is a wonderful mix of a great dining experience with the comfort of your own front room. It is cosy but not tiny. They haven't crammed in too many tables so it does not feel claustrophobic. As this gem is well know to locals and other Bristolians alike it is wise to book your table. I have been many times with family but also on a night out with my partner. When we were there a couple of weeks ago they were doing a pratice session for the kite fiesta on the downs outside so we were able to sit and watch them. I can't recomend this place highly enough, go and try it out for yourself and see. They are also in the invitation book so you can save 25% on your meal.

I have visited this restaurant regularly over the last few years being in Bristol and find they offer great quality food reasonably priced. It may be a little more expensive than some Indian restuarants but the food is well worth paying a little bit extra for. I took friends there for the first time on this visit and they were very impressed with the service, friendliness of the staff and thought the food was excellent. It does get busy so you may need to book. Relaxed and not rushed as you are in some restaurants.
