Legendary to all who frequent the place, Renato's is a shining beacon of the virtues of Italian cooking and hospitality. Meals like the Tagliata Alla Rucola hold masses of flavour with even the Spaghetti Bolognaise seeming like it's the first time you've ever had the dish. The décor is given theatrical flair by many photos of the greats of showbiz lining the walls, making for a touch of nostalgia during a meal. The warmest of welcomes is a given with 40 years of tradition leading towards an altogether spectacular trattoria.

Food Quality -
I had mixed fish and chips which were basically no better than if I had oven cooked a few packs of shrimp, calamari and chips from Iceland. The salad was basic with no dressing and did not taste fresh. The food came out quick but so much so that it feels like it may have been sitting on the hotplate for a while before I got there. My girlfriend had a vegetable fettuccine which she described as bland. Also as a vegetarian she would expect a lot more choice in an Italian joint. I think the fact the menu was mostly meat/fish + chips/mash should have been a warning sign in itself.
Service -
The waiting staff were polite at first. However I think they may have noticed us looking disappointed with our food. Rather than enquire as to what was wrong and if they could do anything to improve it they became much more rude and ignorant. Finally processing my card and throwing it back on the table without a further word. Terrible!
Ambience -
We felt as though we had gone back to the nineties. Old junk everywhere, although this can be charming its not in this case.

I ordered a tuna & caper pizza and was horrifed when 1 hour later I was vomitting everywhere. A real shame to have not only ruined my night but also to flatten me for the rest of the week. Not good, eat here at your own risk!
