What we say

Get away from the bustle of the Gloucester Road and join the band of merry men and maids in this warmly refurbished and award-winning gastropub. Relatively small and very popular, there are separate bar and dining areas, the one offering a fine range of house and guest ales and the other a daily changing menu of freshly produced English and European cuisine; try the overnight braised shoulder of lamb or the beer-braised pheasant. The weekday “express” menus are very popular, but the Sunday lunches would satisfy even the most self-indulgent Friar Tuck.

Went here last evening as a last minute 'can't be bothered to cook on a Friday' sort of idea - and were we pleased I didn't bother to cook!!

Booked table for 2 very easily, although we were cuddled up behind the coffee grinder, which was noisy at times, although the very nice lady operating it did apologise each time it had to go on!

Smallish menu choice, but both our meals were delicious - my lamb was pink which I normally don't like, but it was very moist, tasty and tender, and I really must get over my worry over pink lamb, as it was much nicer than a usual well cooked offering.

Hubby's steak was also deliciously tender. The mixed green veg were nicely crunchy.

    A very enjoyable, unexpected evening.

    Will definitely go again.

The early evening offers at Robin Hood's Retreat are surprisingly good value. In fact if you play your cards right there are some bargains to be had if you can order early.

The food is tasty and portions are more generous that a cynic would expect for a bargain meal, making it good value. We shall certainly come again. Add to that a wide selection of excellent real ales and the evening was good fun in very pleasant surroundings!

All I ask is that the pub add the missing apostrophe to their signage!

Having known head chef Nathan Muir for 10 years, it doesn't suprise me just how good the food here is. As a chef myself for 20 years, i tend to think i know a bit about food...both good & bad, & let me tell you this is good....VERY good!!

This was the 5th time i have eaten at The Robin Hood & as always the food was of the highest quality & cooked to perfection. We arrived just before last orders on Sunday (4pm) & made use of the new decked garden area, which was bathed in glorious October sunshine. We opted for the roast pork & beef, which was seved with the usual duck-fat roasted potatoes (SUBLIME),yorkshire pudding & a selection of Fresh butterd vegetables.

With prices from £16 for 2 courses or £19 for three courses, this is definately value for money.I hope the people of Gloucester Rd realise just how lucky they are...it's not everyday you get "Restaurant Standard" food in a more relaxed Pub atmosphere.

I highly recomend a visit to The Robin Hoods Retreat...you WONT leave dissapointed.

The food is incredible here - really. I had a rabbit starter and lamb main - prepared to perfection!

Nice ambience in the evening and good ales. Highly recommended gem on Gloucester Rd.

What can I say about RHR? Spot on, a great menu that is constantly changing, and it is one of the few places where you could order blindfolded and love what ever you happened to order. Food at its best. Plus if you like your bitters and ales too, you won't be disappointed.

I have eaten many a time here and it is probably one of my favourite restaurants in Bristol, the head chef Nathan Muir is really passionate abous his cooking and has really demonstrated how you can convert a run-down pub into somewhere really nice. The slow cooked shoulder of Lamb is amazing and the desserts are great as well. I believe there will be a really nice garden and will be a top venue for alfresco dining in the Glos rd area. If you have not been here, I strongly recommend
