Accessible only by foot, Ronnies is inconspicuously set in the ancient town of Thornbury, and is named for the owner who has turned a crumbling seventeenth century building, with its beamed ceilings and natural stonework, into an understated but welcoming fine dining restaurant and coffee lounge. Ronnie Faulkner has worked in some of the best kitchens in the UK and Europe and he has brought his experience and passion to bear on his reinterpreted classic French menu. All ingredients are fresh and sourced locally, including Brixham fish, Somerset beef and Cornish lamb. In addition to the a la carte Ronnie has launched a “Market Menu”, which displays the results of his frequent expeditions to the local markets. Snacks, such as filled bagels, freshly grilled paninis and hot sandwiches, and an incredible range of patisserie, are all on offer for those who want a lighter bite.
The work of local artists adorns the walls and the ambience is completed by the exceptionally friendly and efficient service, encapsulated in the owner himself, who takes a special interest in consulting his diners.

No doubt Ronnies is a fantastic restaurant, certainly one of the very best that we have in Bristol. Some of the dishes are simply magnificent, the atmosphere is electric with its foreboding reputation preceeding it, diners highly anticipating a great evening.
However when me and some friends went, there were a few little discrepencies that tarnished the evening slightly.
Firstly we had to wait about 15 minutes before our table was ready, unfortunatley there is no room in the 'reception' area,so we squeezed onto what was essentially a low window ledge, we were offered a complimentary drink, great, however when the bill came it was not complimentary and there was no recolection of it being so!!
I know that Ronnies job is stressful, but whilst we were sat there I felt like i was in an episode of hells kitchen, he was screaming constantly at various other staff which we not only heared but witnessed as we were waiting for our table, needless to say this contiued throughout the service.
Which brings me to my las little issue. the service, was unashambley poor, especially as he was the restaurant manager, he was arrogant, and arguementative. For my starter i had scallops, not just any, the best I have had to date, so good that my friend ordered them as as main course! When the main course came, they were wonderful except for two which were quiet clearly off, they were inedible. The manager argued saying they were fresh there was no way they could be off, it must just be the roe- bullshit they were off end of!! There was no apology, explanation etc just shut up basically and eat them!!! very dissapointing!
The food and service at points were fantastic but at times it fell below the amazing standard and reputation that they have worked hard to attain!

What a lovely place. The atmosphere was friendly as was the service, nothing was too much trouble coupled with a good knowledge of the menu and what wine to recommend with the dishes. You weren't rushed at all either. The food was excellent cooked well and lovely presentation. At the end of the meal came homemade truffles with popping candy in them, genius!

Visited for the umpteenth time with my wife last night, who was making her first visit and I must say the evening experience is even better than the already impressive lunch time service. We both had the lamb dish for mains and it was just out of this world. In the main we were served by Ronnie, clearly still on a high after the numerous local and national accolades his fine restaurant is receiving. Ronnies own service was complimented by a very polite young waiter from Alicante, Spain, Juan - all in all a wonderful meal - congratulations!

Good choice of main dish specials at very reasonable price. We opted for paninis which were served with crisp, salad leaves. Good choice of wines by the glass or bottle. Friendly service with a relaxed atmsosphere.

The atmosphere is very relaxed, a place you feel you can enjoy good food whilst enjoying the company of good friends. A well thought out wine list complimented a terrific meal. An absolute must is the coffee and petite four (seems like an odd recommendation but if you've had petite four at Ronnies you'll know what I mean, and if you haven't you really should!!)

High class food in relaxed surroundings, with a great atmosphere. The food is of an excellent standard- carefully cooked, and combinations well thought out. No one hurries you out, despite it always being busy.
The staff are highly knowledgble, able to tell you specific details about the menu- The Market Menu is excellent value. The only tiny little negative point is that given the regional emphasis, it would maybe be nice to see some local ciders on offer. A real highlight for foodies living in the North Bristol area, not wantint to venture into Bristol for high class dining
