The curry is increasingly becoming one of the finer culinary delights to entertain the palate. The Spice of India is no exception. Situated in the heart of Bristol, it is simple and quaint and boasts a long list of clients who are eager to come back for more.
The menu is extensive yet doesn't overwhelm. Ever tried curried fish? Not the regular prawns or shrimp as is so widely available, but fabulous curried salmon served alongside homemade chutney made from unique Bangladeshi fruit. Of course there are the usual lamb and chicken dishes if fish isn't for you. And, following a spicy dinner, a sorbet or something cool is excellent to cleanse the palate.
All this is on offer at a very reasonable price. One thing is for sure, the Spice of India will definitely leave you salivating for more.

Worst Indian in Bristol

The worst Indian in Bristol Ive been to - the customer service was shocking with rude greeting when we walked in the door, waiters shouting to each other from either end of the restaurant and clearing our plates away before we'd finished! They obviously wanted us out asap even though we were the only ones in there
Food was ok, but did not make up for the service which made us feel uncomfortable and unwelcome. Will certainly not be returning

We had the menu with coffee included, but, the staff seemed to be in a hurry.
Table was cleared while I was still eating the main dish, we got the bill (not requested)before the coffee...actually we didin't get coffee at all.
"We don't do coffee any more" was the answer and we were "asked" to leave and make place for the next geusts....but no one was waiting...
It was obvious that are not local, maybe that was the reason...
conclusion: food is ok, staff is rude

Two words - hidden gem! In Bristol its difficult to get authentic curry at a reasonable price in the city centre. Although the surrounding is a bit old scool I did'nt mind as the food was great and the bill too.
If you dont want to blow the bank but a decent curry go here.

One of the worst

Our group ordered 6 different curries including bhunas, gohst, biriani and a special. The base spice mix was so salty 2 dishes were inedible, I have never come across that before, the other 4 were edible if you took off the sauce.
There was no noticeable difference between the dishes, no subtle flavours and no craft. A curry is not just heat and salt, even the sundries couldn't pick it up, the rice was drying, naans lacking in filling and chapatis came in sealed plastic bags, tasting as good as the warm towels they resembled.
The staff responded to our mention of this with an oK.
There are a lot of good reviews so maybe we hit it o n a bad night, but if the difference between perceived good and bad is this large I wouldn't take the gamble. Any place worth it's salt (to coin the term) should have constancy and passion for the food they serve at the core of their business

Quiet Wednesday night so service was prompt and attentive. Surrondings a bit tatty but food more than made up for tis. Curry was plentiful and full of taste. Breads were very good too - not the doughy, greasy concoction often churned out. For Bristol City Centre a very good standard as I've had a few poor efforts in other nearby establishments. Decent price too. plus bonus entertainment as one of the group of drunk Irish vsitors was apprehended as the group tried a runner and he was forced to pay the full bill - well handled and good fun to watch.

Good but not great

The food was served extremely rapidly and came piping hot. The ambience was decent if a bit stereotypical. My only critisicm would be the portions of the curry dishes which were not exceptionally big. Still, a good, solid and not too pricey Indian restaurant in a cental location.

Great Indian, Central location

This restaurant has a central Bristol location, but does not charge central Bristol prices!
The food prepared is delicious and the waiter service is always welcoming and friendly.
The menu has lots to chose from. The heat description of the dishes are accurate. The chef is also happy to prepare dishes which are not on the menu.
In my experience, the restaurant makes a great place to have dinner after work or for a Saturday night meal, before drinks on the waterfront.
As well as the excellent food, I would recommend the selection of Indian largers, especially the Bangla beer!
