If you're looking for an Indian meal to remember, Sultan should be top of your list. The first Indian restaurant in Bristol to be housed in a Georgian building, it boasts a traditional Georgian interior, featuring a grand 400-year-old fireplace amongst other impressive period features.
Once home to famous physician Edward Jenner, you will find yourself drawn into this historic building, with the large, comfortable reception creating an inviting area in which to enjoy an aperitif or an after-dinner drink, perhaps whilst making your choice from the diverse menu, featuring speciality Tawa and Bangla dishes.
Established in 1984, Sultan has been presided over for the last 23 years by owner Mr Haque, the oldest Indian restaurateur in Bristol, and he will be delighted to welcome you for what promises to be a truly memorable meal.

The Worst Restauarant Ever
Rating - Overall: 1 Food: 1 Service: 1 Ambience: 1

Well what can i say, i have eaten in well over 150 establishments, all over the country, all types of cuisine, but this was the worst dinning experience i have ever had to endure.
From the moment we got there it was awful, it was very dirty and the waiting staff were scruffy and we were virtually ignored. The menu was a paper takeaway menu, honestly, i was speechless! House wine was served in a 50p wine glass and was horrible.
It was the worst restauarant food i have had (a few takeaways i have had have been worse). The food was so so average, painfully bland and boring, a world away from authentic indian cuisine. I cannot believe anyone who has been to this restauarant has gone back!
We also caught a few glimpses of the chef.... a filthy, spotty 20 year old, it was so off putting, we decided to get out of their a.s.a.p when we asked if we could take what we couldnt eat home, our waiter dissappeared for 15 minutes and when he came back began spooning the lefovers into foil dishes in front of us, at the table!! i was speechleess...again, it was going all over the table, and then he mashed the naan bread into a foil dish! It was so bad me and my partner found it almost funny... it was like being at fawlty towers.. only worse... much worse.
When we asked for the bill they forgot to deduct the 25% discount as we had an invitation card which we had and mentioned when we booked, when we brought it up, the old lady who was there hissed at us and shouted 'you should have mentioned it when you booked', we said we did! when the bill came back they had only deducted 10%, but we just wanted to get out of there, so we didnt mention it!
I have never ran out of a restauarant so quickly, we were made to feel awful, as we left we saw the chef again, this time smoking a cigarette, wearing THE most filthy overalls ever!!
Please please whatever you do dont go this restauarant it is awful, the food service and surroundings are a disgrace!!!!
This is not Indian food, and i seriously suggest the health inspectors investigate!!

Fantastic and authentic Indian cuisine, there is a nice variety to choose from on the menu and it is reasonably priced. The surroundings are nice and clean. The only drawback was the poor state of the ladies' loos which had no flush.. .or was this part of the Indian experience?!
The owner Masood is a friendly and accommodating old chap!

This is a brilliant Indian eatery! The food is superb, staff super friendly and all in all a great night can be had here. Taka Dhal is the best ever and the sag paneer is yummy too! Plus the house wine is cheap and perfect for a curry Top tip- if ordering takeaway don't always order popadoms....they always give you some free!
