If you are interested in professional, modern Chinese and Thai cuisines and service yet an affordable dining experience, The Bay restaurant is absolutely the place for you.
Situated in the cultural heart of Cardiff Bay overlooking the New Millennium Centre in Mermaid Quay, The Bay restaurant offers the best in food and surroundings. It enjoys close proximity to a host of entertainment and venues such as Opera House and it is the sort of place ideal for family days out, where all can find something worthwhile. It also overlooks the basin, which has been decked out and used for various events that regularly take place such as the F1 Speed Boat championships, French open-air market and various carnivals, so why not book a table while visiting the area, whether it is for a show or just for a day out.
The restaurant is sleek with artistic and sophisticated décor, creating a totally relaxed atmosphere that is aided by live music on most evenings.
The menu specializes in a fine and unique blend of Chinese and Thai cuisines with a superb selection of styles. Try the well recommended chicken in honey and black pepper, stuffed vegetables with king prawn paste in black bean sauce, or Thai steamed scallop with garlic crumbles and beanthread. Thai curries are also a popular choice, with yellow curry for the faint-of-heart, red curry for the more adventurous, and green curry for those who relish a challenge! All these are available with seafood, king prawns, beef, chicken, bean curd or mixed vegetables.

I went to celebrate my birthday with my two daughters, son-in-law and grandson. The service was polite and prompt. The food was delicious, they even prepared a plain chicken breast for my 22 month old grandson. Later in the evening as a complete surprise, they played "Happy Birthday" over the PA and brought out a birthday cake and candles. All pre-arranged by my daughters. I give this restaurant 10/10. I have been many times and have never been disappointed.

We have been here several times and prefer it to Pearl of the Orient, which is a bit pretentious and rushed. The service has always been good, food delicious and atmosphere good, particularly when they have the pianist in. The restaurant area & toilets are clean and tidy and the tables are neatly presented. Service is prompt but not rushed. I took my mother here for a meal, as she had not been to a thai/chinese restaurant before. She suffers with many food allergies so she queried some of the meals for suitability with the waiter who was very helpful and obliging and answered her questions himself but also double checked with the chef. We all had a lovely time and my mother is looking forward to returning. We are trying to work our way through the restaurants in the bay but this is a definite favourite. Reliable and consistent.
