What we say

Named for the MP for Bath from 1693 to 1710, the Blathwayt has long been a popular spot for racegoers and golfers (Bath Racecourse and Landsdown Golf Club are both nearby.) Recently, however, it has been refurbished and transformed from a pub to a fine dining restaurant, open for lunch, afternoon tea and dinner. A bar area has been retained, of course, and bedrooms have also been added, all named after famous racecourses! There is an extensive outside dining area, covered and heated, for which you do not have to book. Inside, you can choose to eat in the spacious conservatory or around the open fire area. The food is basically British, with a twist, cumin dusted rack of lamb, for instance. Sunday roast with all the trimmings is very popular.

We've been to this pub three or four times now and always found the staff welcoming and professional. The food is good, with a wide range from real pub grub to more interesting dishes, and there's no need to order expensive side dishes to complete your meal. You can eat later than "normal" lunch hours here, so it is a good place to visit for a late Sunday lunch. Often busy, so better to book.

Finding its place between pub and restaurant has not been easy. If you've not been for a while or you were disappointed on a previous visit, I urge you to give them another chance. Both our main courses came with a plentiful dish of vegetables and dauphinoise potatoes, (side salads are an option) Excellent outside eating/drinking/ smoking facility. Separate children's play area. Huge car park. If you're not racing, don't go on raceday!
