Was very much looking forward to our Friday night dinner @ the Circus due to some excellent reviews. While it didn't disappoint i wouldn't rush back and i failed to see what all the fuss was about.
We had starters of soused red mullet and Crab, both cold starters very tasty and well presented but lacked something, just didn't have a wow factor both around £7
Mains were much better, roast partridge and slow roast lamb, beautiful veggies and no need to over order with side dishes one is more than enough for two as the are generous. both £15
Pudding menu was the weak point, nothing really stood out we shared a take on a snickers bar, very yummy but nothing special.
Wines are a real let down i feel, all old world on the menu which the restaurant promotes, although there are some brilliant good value new world wines around these days i just don't see why they should be not included? Only one wine house wine of each colour available by the glass so we went for a bottle of pinot noir £22 a little pricey but the cheaper wines one from Kosovo i believe! didn't take my fancy even that was £18. Service was ok, I don't know if there were any specials on that evening (fresh fish?) as we were not told about any. Staff were polite but they didn't go out of their way to make sure we were having a good time.
So my parting comment would be - give it a try, it's perfect for a cold autumn night but if I'm looking for a place in the future for a special dinner I'm afraid the circus would not be it.

Certainly one of the best dining experiences ive had in bath, no not bath, ever!!!
The ambience of the restaurant is very cosy and warm, a lovely place to be when it is cold and wet outside.
The menu is well balanced, all dishes very appealing and when the courses arrived the food was spectacular. Beautiful flavours, well put together, really was a treat!
Service was very friendly and knowledgeable, the waitress we had was very warm and her service really added to the wonderful food.
The wine menu had some local british wine, which is refreshing, we opted for one of the whites, which wass magnificent one of the best wines i have had, it was from the Sharphnam Winery, Totnes, devon. Which we have since been to to pick up some more bottles!!
Overall we had a fantastic evening at the Circus, beautiful food and wine in friendly comfortable surroundings!
Very highly reccommened shall be returning again, and again and again!!!

It's nearly 20 years since we dined here, so no expectations! Quality seasonal food cooked with skill by a great chef. They were exceedingly busy so the service could have been a little quicker. There seems to be a growing trend in keeping diners waiting (in our opinion) far too long between firsts and mains. It's happening in a lot of establishments! Our only real gripe here was (once again, in our opinion) poor selection/variation of "by the glass" wines. The table staff are trained to perfection, this is an eatery of very high standards! We had the benefit of the Invitation card, a real bonus!
