We popped in for a Sunday Roast in the early evening when the pub was fairly quiet. After a painful 45 minute wait our food was delivered. The meat portion was far from generous although it was quite tasty and covered in a nice gravy. The roast potatoes were cremated, no self respecting kitchen would have served them to paying customers, they should have been binned. The mash was cold in the middle and carrots undercooked and the meal was generally very disappointing.

The trio of desserts was slightly better, the brownie was soft and warm, the lemon tart was bitter without puckering but the amaretti cheesecake has no trace of the flavour at all.

There are far better pubs than this to visit for a roast.

I've been going to the Clifton for the past year on and off and i must admit the standard of service and food had dropped away. My recent trip fills me with hope. friendly efficient service and nice food. I had a great time. It seems like they are now part of chain (maybe they always were) but they seem back on top of things. Good place to drink and for a bit of nice pub grub.
