Okay Sherlock, you got it in one: this place serves a selection of sausages. The bangers are served with mash or champ and onion gravy. And a classic toad in the hole, of course. But no ordinary sausages these - for the fairly hefty price, you get award winning sausages of all kinds. There's also a good selection of other classic British dishes like braised Old Spot belly pork, Cornish mussels in cider and sticky toffee pudding for afters. There's a small bar at the front and the restaurant runs from the very pleasant window side room through to the bricked-wall backroom dining areas. It gets busy and the Sunday roasts are popular too.

Popped in for a late dinner and ended up having one of the finest plates of food i've eaten all year.
I chose the Old Spot tasting plate which consisted of a slow cooked pork belly with crispy crackling, Pan roasted Pork Loin and a Old Spot sausage it was served with the most amazing fondant potato, red cabbage and cider & apple sauce. for £12-50 i couldn't fault the dish.
Great chice of wines by the glass also and their olives are premium!

It does what it says on the sign. The atmosphere was amazing. We had an evening business dinner here and it was really really nice.
Great selection of locally source foods. We where the last at the end of the night and wasn't pressured or pushed into finishing. The opposite in fact. Offered more drinks, coffees just great.

Sausages!

I've only been to Clifton Sausage once but I did enjoy my meal. Funnily enough, only 1 out of us 5 had sausages. I had the belly pork, 2 people had the pheasant (seasonal) and the other person had the fish pie. Our overall consensus was that portions were small (especially the pheasant) but everything was tasty. Personally, I think sausage and mash for a tenner is a bit expensive. Puddings were fine but nothing to write home about. The venue is great. The front bit is more pub-like and relaxed while the seating in the back is more intimate with cute little booths.

I was quite shocked that even on a Sunday afternoon you have to book to dine at the Clifton Sausage. That already spoke volumes for me, so as a new diner in Bristol, I dared to take the folks there ..they’d never need know about the 3 courses for £15.50 offer!
I’m really just saying a massive thank you for being exactly what I needed to impress my visitors. Everything felt so wholesome and homemade.. even the cheese platter for desert was covered in local charm including a slice from Bath! My personal favourite was the HUGE plate of freshly cooked parsnip crisps that you can order as a side for a couple of quid! So, next time you want to show off Bristol’s local produce in a funky yet smart, restaurant come pub environment, (without breaking the bank!) ..I'd definitely recommend the Clifton Sausage.

Sausages and Mash at its best

Delicious sausages (wide range- and the occassional special- we had reindeer sausage). Several accompanying options. Good range of local ciders/ beer and fine wines. Lovely pub- like atmosphere. However, as the name of the restaurant might inidicate, this restaurant's main focus is on sausages. Whilst there is some choice for vegetarians, it is inevitably slightly limited. For those who do not like sausages, there is a range of other options which although tasty and well cooked, you'd get more choice elsewhere. If it is sausages you adore, this is the place to come.
