Fresh from their turnaround of The Albion in Clifton, The Kings Club, a south west based pub company, set upon The Kensington Arms, in the heart of residential Redland. What had become a run down watering hole for students and complacent locals has been transformed into a relaxed and stylish gastropub, with a new dining area established on the first floor and an outside terrace area. The food is classic British with a European twist and dishes are freshly prepared and sourced locally; try the organic steak and kidney pie with creamed potatoes and Guinness gravy, and there is a tempting array of mouth-watering desserts.

This was my first time at the Kensington Arms and what a gem it is. The menu is well stocked with some very interesting options along with the more familiar.
The wine list has a broad range and the atmosphere is welcoming.
I like the fact you can see the Chef's cooking the food as it gives the bistro feel an added something.
The staff were friendly and attentive and the food was exceptional. I was genuinely surprised at the quality considering it is billed as a "gastro-pub".

Restaurant or pub with food?

On a wet Wednesday October night the atmosphere and buzz of the diners when we entered was very welcoming and fun! The service was a bit slow to start with and I was left without a drink for a while. The food service however was fine.
The food was well presented and flavoursome but some dishes certainly better than others. For example my crayfish cocktail was tasty but not remarkable and certainly something that could be made at home. Other starters were more interesting and got good reviews from my friends. My roast pollock and chorizo bean stew was very tasty as was my husband's duck, although he felt there could have been more!
The coffee and dessert service was also a little slow. By the time we were leaving the restaurant had filled up with rather noisy students drinking, which slightly spoilt the atmosphere, especially as some were hanging around the door outside smoking as we left!
We enjoyed the food, the layout & decoration of the restaurant and our evening, however felt it was perhaps a little overpriced for a gastro pub.

Heard good reports about this place so thought I'd give it a go.
How disappointed I was.
The place is pretentious, full of posh students and snotty staff. The service was ignorant and the food wasn't all that.
On a positive note, the sticky toffee pudding was divine. Won't be returning unfortunately.

I love this place. The service is attentive and friendly, the wine comes in huge great glasses and the menu is delicous and inventive. The only thing I'd say is that the portions on the lunch menu were perhaps a little small making side dishes a necessity.
