We went to the Market Place on a Saturday evening and I ordered the risotto which was perfect, nothing like what lauraloo has described!

My fiancee and myself dine here regulary and have never had a problem. We usually chose from the set menu and have always been quite happy with the quality. The staff have always been friendly, courteous and accommodating.

I suggest that lauraloo tries the Market Place again.

I went with a largeish work group for the bargainous set menu deal and at the Market Place you get what you pay for. Although everyone agreed the bog standard stuff like fish & chips and sausage & mash were fine I ventured for a lovely sounding broad bean and asparagus risotto...and wish I hadn't. The risotto was soggy, swimming in olive oil, overcooked and more like a savoury rice pudding - I didn't even need to taste it to tell it was bad news. In addition the asparagus hadn't been trimmed properly so I had the pleasure of chewing through woody stems.

When I sent it back, the waitress told me 'well that's how we do our risotto here' - charming. No apology. My friend also sent hers back and as she was vegetarian the only choice she now had on the set menu was a bowl of chips - which they charged her for. They also charged for an extra meal at the end of the evening which I'm sure was a mistake but annoying none the less.

My starter was seared beef on a salad - you'd expect pink/rare meat but no, little shavings of cooked through chewy meat.

It's a shame as it's a lovely building/atmosphere and does good wine/whisky and when I've ordered a la carte it's been a lot better. OK for pub grub but they're playing at fine dining.

Been here a few times since it opened. Food always good as well as wine! Great selection of whisky.

Can be a little "loud" if full. Staff are very friendly and attentive. Will be going back - a lot!

I got handed a flyer for this little place and gave it a go last week. So glad I did, the pate was to die for and the lamb was very tender. Didn't have room for any dessert but elderflower rice pudding sounds worth returning for. A++++

What a little gem this place is. Fantastic food, I highly recommend the fish and chips, a great bottle of merlot for less than 15 quid and lovely service. Great value for money
