Having undergone myriad changes in its history, from “Box Station Hotel” to dusty, dreary drinking house, the Northey Arms has now undergone a magnificent transformation to become “The Northey Bar & Restaurant”, with a view to becoming one of of the finest dining venues in the area.
Redesigned throughout by owner Sally Warburton, the décor is delightfully tasteful, with a contemporary yet very cosy feel, incorporating wooden and flagstone flooring, high-backed oak chairs and handcrafted tables around the bar. On entrance one can prop up the bar or recline in the leather lounge area and relax with a drink whilst perusing the menu or simply watching the world go by.
Run by the same family team as The Crown and The Old House At Home, quality and consistency are the focus in the kitchen, where every ingredient is sourced through exhaustive research of local suppliers.
The evening menu is of a classical French background with English influences. To start, try the tempura fried soft shell crab with tomato salsa and mango sorbet, or perhaps milk poached smoked haddock with Welsh rarebit and crispy leeks. Follow this with one of a selection of delicious mains, such as rib-eye steak with garlic and rosemary potatoes, roast mushroom, roquefort butter and rocket; or roasted chicken breast with sweet potatoes, lemon, spring onions and spinach. Vegetarians are also catered for, with dishes such as the tempting tagliatelle with artichokes, olives, roast peppers, sun-dried tomatoes, basil and Parmesan.
Lunch or evening, “The Northey Bar and Restaurant” is undoubtedly an affordable dining experience of style, comfort and satisfaction for all!

What a relief, hadn't been to The Northey in a while, needn't have worried, the standards of food, service, wines and drinks on offer were as first class as they'd ever been, a cheery welcome on a mean January night, 'though they were very busy but still nothing too much trouble. Very well planned menu and good sized portions exquisitly cooked and delivered.
Two of us dined, no we're not a related to anyone at The Northey, but we do have the benefit of Invitation card! Fabulous

Oh boy do I wish we'd tried the Northey before. It's fabulous food, setting and service could not be improved upon. The well balanced menu is to die for, as is the selection of ales and wines. All this and the benefit of the Invitation card is unbeatable. The O.H.H. Company's three eating establishments are varied in style and all three seem to have got it just right, but the Northey has a little WOW factor to go with it! 2 of dined and both agreed, we'll be back soon, to try other dishes on the innovative menu.

As we knew we would be passing The Northey Arms we made a booking as it two sister restaurants, The Old House at Home and The Crown at Dyrham, had both impressed. We stopped for lunch rather than in the evening and were surprised to find it nearly empty. However the staff could not have been more helpful and the decor was relaxing and interesting. Hard to say what this would have been like late on a Friday night, but we were served quickly and courteously. We were told that we could choose from the menu (but not the steaks) on the invitation card. Food was well presented and very tasty. Value? We both had a drink at the bar and a main course and the bill was around £30.

Lovely Relaxing Evening

We wanted good food and a relaxing atmosphere and certainly found both here. The leather sofas are a lovely area to relax whilst perusing the menu and your order is taken from you whilst you wait there. When your food is ready they will take you to your table. Service very attentive but not over powering. This is the second visit there and the food has been very good on both occassions. Both had the Rib Eye which really did melt in your mouth. Felt the sweets are a little pricey and as such we have not yet had one. Coffee is good (de-caf available). Very quiet for a week night but if thats what you're looking for it's perfect.

We visit The Northey quite regularly and are always impressed with the quality of the food. The only downside I find is the lack of choices for vegetarians, especially ones that don't include goats cheese, pins in eyes for me!! The choice of puddings has improved from my previous visit though and the pudding I had was scrummy. One other small thing is that the chips used to be really, really nice, now they are not so good.

Me and two friends visited The Northey a couple of weeks ago and had a very enjoyable meal. The Northey is part of the Ohh Company who also own The Old House at Home and one other place which escapes my mind (I will certainly be visiting both these places at some point in the future!) Although the venue was not particualry busy for a week night, the atmosphere was enjoyable and perfect for a relaxing evening. I ate soft shell crab which was as good as any I have had at Japanese restaurants and a steak for my main course which was brilliant. Topping this off with a lovely bottle of red made The Northey a must visit.
