Formerly the foyer of the next door cinema, The Picture House has positioned itself as an eatery for all seasons, part café, part bar, part restaurant, perfect for a cream tea, a tipple with friends or a leisurely dinner. The inside is decorated in muted but integrated colours giving a relaxed ambience, the walls decorated with photos of movie stars of yesteryear. The menus are all imaginative twists on locally sourced ingredients, they take particular pride in their meat, and the owner always seems to have something new in mind. There is an extensive tapas menu to complement the a la carte listing.

My new favourite restaurant!

My husband and I visited the Picture House for our anniversary and had an absolutely fantastic meal. The menu had plenty of variety and the food was cooked to perfection - especially my husband's steak. All our meals were presented in a way that said that someone had really taken the time to prepare it rather than just chuck it on a plate(!) and tasted as good as they looked.
The staff were all very friendly, courteous and well informed about the menu and there was a very buzzy atmosphere about the place.
We will definitely be back to visit with friends.

Anniversary Delight!!

Me and my partner decided to spend our anniversary at this popular restauarant, and what a great choice it turned out to be.
The atmosphere in the Picture House is very busy and bustling, but with an edge of class and sophistication, endicative of the area!
The waiting staff were all very friendly and very attentive, considering it was very very busy!
The choice of food was slightly limited, but the options were exellent! I had roast beef on toast with a horseradish cream to start which was cooked to perfection, a perfect start. My partners soup was also very fresh and flavoursome. For main i had lamb wrapped in ham, stuffed with haggis and a lentil and red wine jus. This was an adventurious dish which worked perfectly, it was beautiful. My partner had an amazing steak, although the fries were a little dissapointing!
The Desserts were stunning, i had a summer fruits pudding which was superb and my partner had the most delicious chocolate torte, he almost ordered a second, it was that good!
The drinks were also exellent, a good choice of wine, at a great price.
We couldnt have asked for a better evening, the food was astounding, and the ambience and service matched up. The cocktails after the main are amazing aswel.
Surely one of the best places to eat in Bristol, it really is the real deal, it comes highly reccommended!!

Pleasantly Tipsy Not Pie Eyed

Had an excellent lunch here at a very reasonable price. We ordered a delicious bottle of Mas des Syrah, which was full bodied and lip smacking. A jug of iced water was brought to the table without us even asking.
We started with the ham, which was given a boost by a sparky celeriac remoulade and cornichons. The accompanying bread was lovely - nutty, dense and served with a good extra-virgin (sound familiar?!).
I followed with the chicken pie - the perfect comfort food. The accompanying salad was a little odd - chestnuts and (fried?) potatoes. This was eclipsed by the pie - small chunks of chicken and vegetables infused with tarragon and topped off with a crispy yet unctuous puff pastry topping. My friend proclaimed her mussels to be superb and felt it was only missing in something absorbent to mop up the last of the tasty liquor.
She followed with the chocolate torte - I was still pie-eyed. Then coffee and a contented stumble home.

LUNCH - 2 COURSES FOR £10
Rating - Overall: 4 Food: 4 Service: 4 Ambience: 4

Just had a fab lunch at the Picture house, 2 courses £10 3 for £13.50. Had a smoked salmon and goats cheese starter with blinis and salad which was fresh and light, followed by crab and scallop linguine (£2.50 supplement) which was full of flavour, you can see the chefs at work through the hatch which I think is always a good sign. My husband had a thai beef salad for his main course and he raved about it. First visit but it won't be the last.
