Set at the junction of the busy Zetland, Gloucester and Cheltenham Roads, the white and grey-blue premises of The Prince of Wales (formerly known in some circles as “The Prince of Darkness”) are now home to an eco-warrior's heaven. If you should need to take a short break from the business of taking on board the range of organic beers (including their own organic lager, Charlies Pride) and wines, you might well find yourself in the one of the unisex, waterless, airflush loos or being gently warmed by the energy-efficient, thermostat-controlled patio heaters in the beer garden at the rear; biodegradable bin bags abound. The cuisine (including house specials, a la carte, sandwiches and all day breakfasts) is modern British and, naturally, the food is free range and organic and all supplied from local sources. The two drinking areas, linked by a U-shaped bar, provide a cosy space and attract an eclectic crowd, especially at weekends.
