With an envied location overlooking the harbour, the Pump House is one of Bristol's favourite gastropubs, and a perfect place to enjoy a meal in the sun on summer days, or tucked cosily inside on colder evenings. The traditional stone walls, large wooden beams and balcony-style upper floor inside make the atmosphere as unique and inviting as the choices on the menu.
Along with experience gained from Bell's Diner and The Albion, Toby Gritten has brought a selection of his own favourite dishes to the menu, such as homemade burgers and fish and chips, which sit alongside more contemporary fare such as roast Mendip lamb with potato gratin and cockles, or violet artichoke, pear, rocket and walnut salad.
Ample parking and easy access from all directions make the Pump House convenient for a light meal or a leisurely dinner.

We've been meaning to try this place out after reading the Matthew Fort review. First impression good, ambience lovely although could be more relaxed - the waiting staff a little pretentious. However the food was absolutely stunning, knocking spots off recent meals at Riverstation and Bordeaux Quay, and the bill compared well too. Will definitely be back. Small quibbles, two items on the menu were for two people sharing which limited the choice, and the main needed carbs. Otherwise sensational.

I visited this place with my son, husband and 2 friends. Although was a bit late for a 7 year old boy to get in, he was welcome at the end. I'm sure just worried the staff that he could be a little nightmare, the atmosphere is too quiet and gave me the impression of one have to whisper to talk.
My son & me went for the vegetarian option, at first instant the waitress wasn't that veggie friendly and seems they dont spect many vegetarians in this place, but he was very helpful and did his best to deliver a nice meal. As a starter we had a lovely vegetable soup, im still not sure what was made of but it was 'so good' in taste and delicious bread. The main was pretty spontaneous, it wasn't a la carte menu, so I can say was specially made for us. Though it didnt contain protein, the vegetables where prepared in such a way that it did taste just wonderful! Pretty unusual.
I'm very happy with the experience and I would love to come back again. Specially for the alfresco summer.

Really enjoyed this place and would return. Arrived early (before 7) but they allowed us into the restaurant (normally after 7). Lovely starters. Good English food with a twist. I had a pork belly pate type starter, which was lovely. Served on a large slate plate. My father had goats cheese with ice cream - an interesting twist but it worked! For the main I had lamb which came with a separate shepherds pie! Swilled down with some bath ales. A real enjoyable evening. Lovely atmosphere, nicely busy, although slow service.

Booked a table end of November for my friend's Birthday. The upstairs restaurant was lovely and the service brilliant. The food was extremely good. If I'm to be a little critical I think there was a little too much cracked pepper...but well worth a visit!

Beautiful setting in this lovely old buidling - refurbed to a high standard and very lovely to sit and relax. the food menu was modern, contemporary English cuisine. It was so good you wanted to taste what everybody else was eating. A welcome sensation on your tast buds.

i wouldn't want anyone to miss out on this experience that we had - as that would be rather unfortunate. a fantastic and very diverse menu of contemporary eloquent dining in such a historic setting. 3 out of 5 of us went for the wood pidgeon / risotto / chocolate and hazelnut starter and the guinea fowl / macaroni main - fantashtik!

We visited the newly decorated pumphouse with anticipation. The decor and ambience is lovely... they've done a really good job on the old place. The food and service however was a bit of a mixed bag. I cannot fault the hospitality as we had THE friendliest waitress ever... very smiley and helpful throughout. However, the food [Standard sunday roast] was at best, average. Also it took about an hour to get our mains after we had finished our starters... far too long in my opinion. We left feeling disappointed... and will seriously consider going back again for food. I think we'll stick to what it does best... beers outside in the sun...
