What we say

Led by the charming landlady Jess Spavins, the Rose is truly a pub's pub. The smart refit still retains the flavour of a wood and sawdust pub. The place serves predominantly British food, with a satisfying continental edge. Belly pork, smoked haddock scotch eggs and lamb shank are the kinds of meals on offer, along with pleasant company and selection of fine drinks to wash them down with.

We went on reccommendation and it was soooo worth it, the food was fantastic, service was great, the staff went out of their way to make sure we were happy and very full!! Having spoken to the staff whilst waiting for a table, it seems that this is the place to see the Six Nations Rugby, they are doing table service and FREE food at half time for every match. I know where I'll be going.

Went for a sunday roast on a recommendation. I had the roast beef, good sized portions, could do with a few more roast potatoes, beef was tender and tasty, yourkshire slightly overcooked.

I was very happy with the food, prices were around £9 for the main but would recommend it.

You must book in advance though as they get very busy and you will not a get a table via a walk-in.

Came with my Invitation card and got a bargain steak - but agreed that wouldn't pay full price (if memory serves me right it was £22 full price which is a bit steep for a pub). Really amazing chips (and I looooove my chips). I would say that the pub itself needs a spruce up - fine for a good old fashioned watering hole but not somewhere you would want to splash out £22 on a steak! Would come back again to try more standard pub grub...especially if it means I can get my hands on those chips again.

What a pub! Fantastic atmosphere, good beers and wine selection which doesn't break the bank and child friednly too. We were a table of 10 and between us tried each of the roast dinners on offer (beef, chicken, lamb) incuding the vegetarian (home meade nut roast). all were cooked to perfection accompanied by well cooked parsnips and warm veg, still with a little crunch and served on warm plates. The service is friendly and quick, all round, a highly enjoyable visit and highly recommended. They also serve until 3 on Sundays which makes a refreshing change.
