What we say

The St Nicholas Street Slug is a single bar (linking with Corn Street) with a comfy sofa or three, a garden for decent weather and waiter service throughout. Food is cheap and cheerful, but organic where possible, and, of course, there's plenty to slake the thirst, including an extensive cocktail list. Popular with locals and businessmen during the day, by evening it attracts a lively student crowd. DJs put in the odd appearance.

We drooped in here before going to theatre. They often have special deals on so visit the Slug and Lettuce website before you go. By booking we were promised 25% off and that would have made very reasonable and the food is usually OK so we were looking forward to a good evening. The place is nice but there was only one member of staff visable the whole time we were there ( 6.30 - wednesday evening). She was running the bar, taking orders and serving. She was pleaseant and polite but stretched to say the least. In the end she promised us two deserts for one and yet we were charged for both. On the whole it would have been what had expected had there been another member of staff. The food (new menu) was good as usual with adequate variety and the problem with the bill should have been avoided. That said I will probably go again on another theatre trip.

Despite my reservations that this was more of a bar then somewhere to eat, i found it to have a quiet ambience. I had the lamb, which was very good, although the vegetables were undercooked and not hot, and a fantastic white wine spritzer. The service was very good, polite and quick. I was pleasently surprised with the experience

We visited on a Monday so all food on the munu was half price all day, this ofer has been extended.

We had a starter combo which was lovely, a good mix of meat and vegetables, we had the mexican buger for mains which was nice and served with chilli.

Small menu for children which was ok and had the standars stuff such as sausage and mash and Pasta.
