This is an inspired transformation of a rundown, backstreet boozer into a striking neighbourhood gastropub that isn't open its own artichoke. Over 200 years old, the old coaching inn was taken over in Spring 08 and given a simple but effective facelift. It mixes the traditional with the chic modern well and offers a large, walled suntrap of a garden in which to escape the city. Apart from the extensive selection of real ales and ciders, the chef has created a simple pub menu based on standard British classics which includes a range of top quality sausages, locally made and organic, alongside the steak and chips and award-winning Pieminster pies. The dishes are good value and note the special offers Mon-wed 5-7pm.

We have eaten several times at the Spotted Cow and really enjoyed the atmosphere and the food. So I was disappointed on Saturday evening with the standard of the so called chips. They were twice fried the menu said, but if they were then the second time they were fried the oil could not have been hot enough, as the potato instead of being crisp was soggy and the potato inside was oil logged. When I pointed this out I was told ' No they don't look as good as usual' When I suggested that the fat was not hot enough I was told that it was probrably the potato. Well if it was the potato and they did not 'look as good as normal' why serve them?

Have just recently started coming back into the Spotted Cow following a recent makeover, the comfy seating and log fire makes this a cosy spot! However it can get busy and fills up very quickly on a Saturday evening.
Food is tasty if a little overpriced in my opinion, but that's just me being fussy and skint!! ;o)

Solid, classy Bemmie boozer come good, having turned its hand to gastro-loveliness. Had a really terrific belly of pork and loved the selection of amazing spirits, beers and wines - a cocktail oasis in South Bristol. A bonus is the appearance of another Pie Minister stockist but I would say steamed green veg doesn't hit the mark when you sit down to a Chicken of Arragon pie - where are the minty mushy peas? But if that's the worst I can muster then everything is pretty sweet.
