What we say

“Kaiten” is a rolling manoeuvre in the Japanese martial art of taijutsu and has given its name to “Kaiten-Zushi” or “conveyor belt sushi”, also known by expats in Japan as “sushi-go-round” and by Aussies, more romantically, as “sushi train”. The great advantage from the diner's point of view is that you don't have to speak Japanese to order anything, you just pinch it off the moving belt (although if you change your mind having inspected it close up, you are not expected to put it back). If you do have a pass mark in the lingo, however, you can always ask the chefs, who are in the middle feeding the conveyor by applying culinary martial arts to the ingredients, to prepare you something specific. Yen Sushi is the first to bring this dining experience to Bath and offers the traditional sushi and sashimi dishes as well as plenty of cooked items, including many vegetarian options, all at a reasonable price. The “Kaiten” was also a type of Second World War torpedo but, even though it lived in the sea and was completely raw, the Japanese never found a truly satisfying way to eat it.

This gem of a restaurant never fails to impress. The food is of the highest quality time after time and the staff are highly skilled from the chefs to the waiting staff. Speaking as one who has tried on occasion to produce my own sushi at home I can only marvel at the dexterity and attention to detail exhibited by the sushi chefs at Yen Sushi. Sushi should be beautiful to the eye and to the palate and Yen Sushi has never disappointed in either case. Highly recommended.

Saw this restaurant last weekend whilst out and about in Bath and my 4 year old was fascinated with it. Went to Bath today for her birthday and she wanted to go to the place where the food goes around!

Visited at lunch time and managed to get seats by the conveyor belt. The food was lovely and we had great fun trying to guess what was what without referring to the helpful chart, not sure I would have guess the Takoyaki (octopus balls) without looking that one up. Not all of the dishes were on the conveyor belt, but were quickly served to us once requested.

Service was excellent, just enough to get you stared but not overpowering. Really enjoyed the food and the experience and would definitely recommend it as a fun place to eat which offers great food.

Came here with my 86 year old gran and sat at the conveyor. Really good service and excellent quality of food - much preferable to Yo Sushi with it's rubbish miso soup. The decor was a bit cheap and cheerful (not plush) but when you sit round a conveyor, it had everything you'd need. Very good, prompt service and happy to patiently answer all my gran's questions about what she was eating. Would def go again if I was more local.

Yen Sushi is a kaiten sushi bar, chefs stand in the middle preparing food and place it on the conveyor belt that circles them. It is great to watch the chefs freshly prepare the sushi, there is a fairly large range of dishes and the menus have pictures so you can identfy what you are eating. You take and eat what you like and at the end the plates are counted and you are billed for what you have eaten. the prices range from £1.50 for bowls of sugar snap peas or small plates of sushi, through £3 for the octopus balls to £4 for larger dishes. If you don't want to eat kaiten style there is a menu you can also order from which includes larger dishes and veggie options.

The quality of the food is excellent, the fish is perfectly fresh and everything is well prepared, my only complaint would be it can be rather cramped, we visited at Sunday lunch time and there were no seats available at the belt, so were crammed into a corner.

Yen Sushi is very reasonably priced and really is a fun experience, well worth a visit!

I love sushi and have been to Yo Sushi more times than I care to remember.

This is a great place to go with friends as you can share dishes and try new things out, it is also great fun. My only criticism is that whilst there were a lot of different dishes, there was not a huge choice to choose from, but I have just been spoilt in the past. The food was of good quality and before you know it, you have 10 plates piled up.

My wife and I are sushi lovers so thought we'd make the trip over from Bristol to visit Yen and we were very glad we did! The menu was fantastic, covering a broad range of different sushi and sashimi dishes as well as other Japanese standards such as miso soup, teriyaki and seaweed salad. We couldn't fault the quality of the food and it's always good to have your sushi chef doing his thing a couple of feet in front of you.

The only minor negative point of our visit was that we were sat at the corner of the conveyor belt and the people sat on tables behind us were often hovering at our shoulder and reaching over to grab dishes from the belt.
