What we say

At Zero Degrees, it is all about the beer (...oh and don't forget the mussels and pizzas!) which is brewed on the premises in the micro brewery. The thing we particularly like about the venue is that you really get a sense of the processes at work around you, as the sights, sounds and smells of the working brewery and the busy kitchens, with its traditional wood-fire pizza oven, are open to view.

There are also of course wines and spirits available and a scrumptious menu using only the freshest ingredients to create inspiring gourmet dishes and exceptional freshly brewed beers. There is an excellent selection of outdoor seating and is of course another great pre-theatre dining and drinking experience or why not browse the great selection of art galleries on Christmas Steps and reward yourself with a nice cold beer at the end of it.

We (myself and my husband) booked a table for 2 the previous night for 8.30pm. We arrived on time and were seated quickly. We had to wait 25 minutes for anyone to take any further notice of us. We actually ended up asking some one to come to take our order for drinks and food.

The staff were friendly enough but the service continued to be poor. When my pizza was set at the table it almost ended up in my lap but without so much as an apology from the male waiter serving it to us.

We ordered for starter - crostini and calamari - the calamari was very nice.

Main - BBQ Chicken Pizza & Caramalised pear and gorgonzola pizza - both were very bland.

We had an invitation diners card which entitled us to 25% off the final bill and made this known at time of booking, on arrival and on ordering. It was again shown when asking for the bill. The bill was returned to us without the discount applied. We then asked what seemed like the head waiter to revise this - he very happily arranged this.

Overall poor service and bland food - bg shame as I really love the atmosphere and the concept of the restaurant.

Very easy venue for a big group, we went there with about 15 of us and it was really enjoyable. Obviously the selection of beers, but there is also some nice fruity drinks for the ladies. Mainly Pizza and Pasta on the menu, which all sounded very delicious. Finally decided for one and was not disappointed at all. All in all very relaxed atmosphere, both at the bar and in the restaurant area.

Located a few minutes walk from the Hippodrome Zero Degrees has a large restaurant area set over a couple of floors and a separate bar area which can be very popular with those not eating.

Arriving at around 7pm on a Saturday evening as part of a group of seven we hadn't booked and there was some initial disorganisation while they decided where we could sit and we were sent downstairs to be sent back upstairs. Then when we went to sit down we were quickly ushered to a different table, so it wasn't the best of starts.

Things improved with the speedy arrival of the Zero Degees Pilsner supposedly brewed on site and then the pizzas not long after. The pizzas are served with a thin stonebake base and the toppings were of suitable quality and quantity for the price tag.

My Salmon and Mascarpone pizza, a topping combination that I had not previously encountered but that intrigued me, was topped with two large strips of salmon which was a very pleasant surprise as I wasn't expecting it to be presented in such away. The pizza tasted great, had no hint of being greasy and if I had one criticism it was that I didn't feel full up despite its decent size.

To be honest this wasn't a huge issue as this meal was a precursor to a drinking session and due to its location and menu was a perfect choice for our evening.

With an interesting range of good tasting pizzas (or Mussels) and prompt service I would definitely return to Zero Degrees for a pre night out pizza.

I organised a work Xmas meal. ZeroDegrees is one my fave restaurants in Bristol for its mussels, wine and sorbet. The service at Xmas I have to say was better than usual, our waiter was fab and the food arrived really quickly. I was a little disappointed with the Xmas menu as mussels should have been on it. I chose the lasagne and was extremely disappointed to note that it was a veggie lasagne which the menu did not make clear. I would definitely continue to go there and would definitely recommend ZeroDegrees for large parties.

I have been to Zero Degrees several times this year and have always had an enjoyabe experience with delicious food and good service despite the fact it is a very busy restaurant. The mussles are amazing and a staple choice and the pizza menu is extensive and has not yet failed to impress.

My one un-enjoyable experience was my most recent visit last weekend. It was the christmas menu and the food was a little less than desirable, and the service was almost non-existant. We were there on our staff christmas party and others in our party have been put off the restaurant from our experience, but as i have always had great meals there before I shall definately be returning.

Been here many times about 3-5 times a year.

Love the menu love the beer, so much choice i always struggle and then there are the mussels!! all i can say is amazing

Only thing that lets the place down is the ambiance, because it's basically in a warehouse you don't get that warm restaurant feel but it is what it is and great value @ that!

After walking up the steep Christmas Steps you arrive at a modern contemporary building. Once inside there is one huge space laid up for groups or couples ready to dine. The attraction of different beers to accompany the meal was the main reason for my visit. Not to be dissappointed I tried a selection, preferring their pale ale as my first choice. I was equally impressed with the 1kg pot of mussels cooked in a cream and brandy sauce, in fact there was a large choice of different sauces. The size of the pot coupled with the french fries which accompanied it filled me so much i was unable to manage any dessert.

The venue is bustling and busy. Great for groups, a bit noisy for an intimate date.

I recently visited with a group of 12 friends to celebrate a birthday.

We had a slight wait for our table, but this gave an opportunity to try their excellent brewed largers.

The table given to us was very cramped, at our request the waiter showed us how to extend the size of our table.

The food was excellent. We did not feel rushed, even though the venue was very busy.

The staff work hard, but more employees are needed to service the tables.

ZeroDegrees has very good quality food at affordable prices. Great to visit before a night out, in a large group, or even for a romantic meal. Speed of food delivery is brilliant they don't keep you waiting too long. I recommend the Americana Pizza! Beer and Lager is brewed in house and can get quite loud on a friday/saturday evening, but all adds to the atmosphere.

This was the second time in a month that I have visited Zero Degrees. The first time was with my good friend and the second time was on a date. On both ocassions I had a pizza and mussels (both very nice). The dough-balls, I have to say are better (slightly) than Pizza Express and the dish I would most recommend is the Bruschetta starter (absolutely fabulous!). The service was good and attentive. I used my Platinum Card discount to get 15% off the bill (which is always nice). Well worth a visit if you are on a date or out with mates....
